Igor Kurganov is the Champion... Not!

Posted 2012-05-01 GMT+1

Daniel Negreanu raised to 160,000 and after a slightly longer than normal dwell, Igor Kurganov made the call. The flop was {10-Diamonds} {10-Hearts} {9-Diamonds} and Negreanu pumped the pot up with a check-raise to 380,000 after Kurganov had bet 180,000. The ever calm Kurganov made the call and we moved to the turn. The dealer threw the {K-Diamonds} down and Kurganov bet 600,000. After a quick count Negreanu moved all-in and Kurganov called.

Kurganov{A-Hearts} {10-Clubs}
Negreanu{10-Spades} {8-Spades}

"It's a cooler...what a cooler," said Negreanu when he saw the cards of Kurganov.

Everybody crowded in around the table as Igor Kurganov was one card away from being crowned the High Roller Champion.

River: {K-Hearts}

"Chop it up," said a very calm Daniel Negreanu

"Go Daniel," shouted Mercier in a very glum voice.

Apparently, if Negreanu should win then Mercier will owe him 25k in a side bet hence the glum cheer from the rail.

Daniel Negreanu limped from the small blind and Igor Kurganov checked in the big blind. The flop was {J-Spades} {7-Hearts} {4-Clubs} and Negreanu called a 120,000 Kurganov bet. The turn paired the board when the {J-Diamonds} showed an appearance and this time Kurganov changed tact when he checked. Negreanu bet 230,000 and Kurganov made the call. The final card was the {8-Spades} and Kurganov checked again. Negreanu quickly reached into his stack and pulled out a tower of red 25k chips and pushed 550,000 into the middle. Kurganov tanked for the longest time but eventually did make the call.

"I have a jack," said Negreanu.

He turned over {J-Hearts} {3-Diamonds} and Kurganov mucked his hand.
