Rivered Set, Extra Bet for Bardah

Posted 2012-06-23 GMT-6

Ronnie Bardah raised from the small blind and Sorel Mizzi called from one seat over. Bardah again bet the {2-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{6-Spades} flop, and when Mizzi raised Bardah called. The turn was the {J-Clubs}, and it went check-bet-call as Mizzi had taken the initiative.

The river brought the {8-Spades} and another check from Bardah. Mizzi fired again, and this time Bardah check-raised, bringing a reluctant-seeming call from Mizzi. Bardah tabled {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} for a rivered set, and Mizzi patted the table in acknowledgment.

Chip Counts
Ronnie Bardah 255,000 100,000 pos
Sorel Mizzi 178,000 -30,000 neg

Chan vs. Bardah

Posted 2012-06-23 GMT-6

Terrence Chan raised from the button and Ronnie Bardah defended from the big blind. The {A-Clubs}{J-Clubs}{3-Clubs} flop saw Bardah check, and Chan took the opportunity to bet. Bardah responded with a check-raise, Chan called, and then it went bet-call on the {3-Hearts} turn.

Both players ended up checking the {3-Diamonds} river, and Bardah rolled over {K-Spades}{10-Spades}, which was no good against the {K-Hearts}{8-Clubs} of Chan.

Chip Counts
Terrence Chan 386,000 40,000 pos
Ronnie Bardah 115,000 53,000 pos

Joep van den Bijgaart Eliminated in 10th Place ($12,682)

Joep van den Bijgaart - 10th place
Joep van den Bijgaart - 10th place

Two hands spelled the end of Joep van den Bijgaart's run.

In the first, van den Bijgaart raised from under the gun, Marco Johnson three-bet from the small blind, and van den Bijgaart called. The flop came {J-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{6-Hearts}, Johnson bet, and van den Bijgaart called. The Dutchman also called Johnson's bet after the {8-Clubs} turn, a bet which left Johnson with but 4,000 behind.

Johnson tossed his last 4,000 out in the dark before the {A-Clubs} fell, and when van den Bijgaart called, Johnson showed {A-Hearts}{Q-Spades} and van den Bijgaart mucked. Both players exhaled — Johnson with a thankful look for surviving, and van den Bijgaart with a more weary expression, as that hand had knocked him down under 35,000.

Soon after van den Bijgaart was opening from the cutoff and Hans Minocha called from the small blind. Minocha check-called bets on both the {3-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{A-Hearts} flop and {5-Hearts} turn, and van den Bijgaart had but about 5,000 left to toss out after the {7-Clubs} river which Minocha called.

The all-in player tabled his hand — {A-Spades}{5-Clubs} — saying "probably not good?" Indeed it wasn't, as Minocha had the better two pair with {A-Clubs}{J-Spades}, and van den Bijgaart is out in 10th.

Chip Counts
Hans Minocha 318,000 43,000 pos
Marco Johnson 88,000 50,000 pos

Fours Full for Porter

Posted 2012-06-23 GMT-6

Marco Johnson raised under the gun and was immediately met with a reraise from Rep Porter in the cutoff. The rest of the field got out of the way, Johnson called, and it was heads-up to the {2-Spades}{2-Hearts}{6-Hearts} flop. Johnson check-called a bet, which brought about the {4-Spades} on the turn.

Again Johnson checked, but this time he opted to raise when Porter bet. The latter made the call and watched as Johnson fired the {3-Diamonds} river. Porter responded with a quick raise, and Johnson, who seemed to know he was in trouble, made a reluctant call.

Porter rolled over {4-Clubs}{4-Hearts} for a full house, and Johnson simply shook his head and tossed his cards to the muck.

Chip Counts
Rep Porter 210,000 80,000 pos
Marco Johnson 38,000 -54,000 neg

Bardah Doubles Through Mizzi

Posted 2012-06-23 GMT-6

Action folded to Ronnie Bardah on the button and he raised. Sorel Mizzi responded with a reraise from the small blind, Bardah three-bet to 24,000, a call was made and the flop came down {J-Spades}{K-Spades}{4-Spades}. Mizzi checked, Bardah bet, Mizzi check-raised and Bardah three-bet all-in for 16,000 total. Mizzi made the call and discovered the bad news.

Showdown
Mizzi: {5-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}
Bardah: {A-Clubs}{J-Clubs}

Bardah had outflopped his opponent and did not relinquish the lead as the {7-Diamonds} appeared on the turn followed by the {6-Clubs} on the river.

Chip Counts
Sorel Mizzi 290,000 -35,000 neg
Ronnie Bardah 75,000 40,000 pos

Minocha Strikes Back

Posted 2012-06-23 GMT-6

In the very next hand after he double Marco Johnson, Hans Minocha raised from the button. Appropriately, it was Johnson who reraised from the small blind. After the big blind got out of the way, Minocha made the call and then raised a bet on the {4-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{3-Hearts} flop. Johnson made the call before check-folding to a bet on the {3-Diamonds} turn.

Chip Counts
Hans Minocha 182,000 28,000 pos
Marco Johnson 52,000 -28,000 neg

Johnson Doubles

Posted 2012-06-23 GMT-6

Action folded to Hans Minocha in the small blind and he raised only to have Marco Johnson reraise from the big blind. Minocha made the call and then led out on the {3-Spades}{2-Hearts}{K-Diamonds} flop. Johnson made the call and then raised all in for 17,000 total when Minocha led out on the {2-Diamonds} turn. A call was made and the hands tabled:

Showdown
Minocha: {8-Spades}{8-Diamonds}
Johnson: {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}

The {3-Diamonds} river was of no consequence and Johnson received a double.

Chip Counts
Hans Minocha 154,000 -22,500 neg
Marco Johnson 80,000 9,000 pos

A Bounce-Back for Brown

Posted 2012-06-23 GMT-6

Chad Brown lost a chunk in the early going in a hand to Ronnie Bardah, but has just claimed some chips back, mostly from Sorel Mizzi.

Bardah opened from the button, Mizzi three-bet from the small blind, then Brown made it four to go from the big blind. Both Bardah and Mizzi called.

The flop came {4-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{6-Spades}. Mizzi led with a bet, and when Brown raised Bardah went into the tank. "How much you got?" he asked Brown, who replied "a lot" and held up his short stack of pink (5,000) chips. Brown was in fact quite short-stacked, relatively speaking, but was indicating he had enough to play out the hand.

Bardah finally folded and Mizzi called. The turn was the {Q-Hearts}. Mizzi checked, Brown bet, Mizzi check-raised, and after a pause Brown called. Brown again called a bet by Mizzi after the {2-Hearts} river.

Mizzi then tabled {K-Hearts}{10-Clubs} and Brown {A-Clubs}{K-Spades}, and Brown won the sizable pot. Bardah shook his head afterwards, indicating he'd folded what would've been a winner.

Chip Counts
Sorel Mizzi 245,000 -35,000 neg
Chad Brown 135,000 30,000 pos
Ronnie Bardah 55,000 -45,000 neg

Bardah Takes Bite Out of Brown

Posted 2012-06-23 GMT-6

Vincent Gironda raised from the cutoff, Ronnie Bardah three-bet from the button, Chad Brown four-bet from the small blind, Gironda called, and Bardah called. The flop came monotone — {2-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{6-Hearts} — and when it checked to Bardah he bet and only Brown stuck around.

The turn was the {9-Spades}, and Brown checked. This time when Bardah bet, Brown let it go.

Chip Counts
Chad Brown 105,000 -32,500 neg
Ronnie Bardah 100,000 36,000 pos

Early Pot for Chan

Posted 2012-06-23 GMT-6

Sorel Mizzi raised from the hijack and received a call from Chad Brown in the cutoff. Terrence Chan and Vincent Gironda came along from the small and big blinds respectively, and it was four-way action to the {K-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{4-Clubs} flop.

Action went check-check to Mizzi, who put out a bet. Brown got out of the way, Chan made it two bets to go, and Gironda folded. Mizzi made the call and then folded when Chan led out on the {Q-Spades} turn.

Chip Counts
Terrence Chan 469,000 50,500 pos
Sorel Mizzi 280,000 -34,500 neg
