Two For Vilandos

Posted 2012-07-01 GMT-6

With all of the action between Dan Smith and Kyle Julius you must be wondering what has happened to our two-time World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner Pete Vilandos? Well he is pegging away quite fine. In fact he has just won two pots in action against Julius to take him up to 5,750,000.

Kyle Julius 3,650,000 -850,000 neg

Two Pair For Julius

Posted 2012-07-01 GMT-6

Peter Vilandos surrendered his button and it was left to Dan Smith (SB) and Kyle Julius (BB) to once again take the tango. Smith decided to make up the small change and Julius checked his option. The flop contained more hearts than a gift shop on Valentines day - {A-Hearts} {Q-Hearts} {10-Hearts} - and Smith made a small bet, which Julius called. The turn card was the {2-Diamonds} and Smith once again barrelled, this time for 300,000; Julius once again calling. The river card was the {6-Diamonds}, Smith checked, Julius bet 700,000 and Smith called, but it wasn't a good one. Julius turned over {Q-Clubs} {2-Spades} for two pair and Smith mucked his hand.

Dan Smith 5,475,000 -1,375,000 neg
Kyle Julius 4,500,000 1,250,000 pos

Revenge For Smith

Posted 2012-07-01 GMT-6

Kyle Julius raised to 200,000 on the button and the bespectacled Dan Smith made the call from the big. The first three cards on the felt were {K-Clubs} {6-Diamonds} {2-Clubs} and Smith check-called a 210,000 Julius c-bet. Pot control was the order of the day on the turn, when both players checked at the sight of the {Q-Clubs}. The final card was the {7-Hearts} and Smith led for 595,000; Julius made the call. Smith turned over {K-Diamonds} {J-Clubs} for top pair and Julius mucked his cards.

Dan Smith 6,850,000 1,490,000 pos
Kyle Julius 3,250,000 -1,150,000 neg

Unsuccessful Check Raise by Smith

Posted 2012-07-01 GMT-6

Kyle Julius raised to 210,000 on the button and Dan Smith made the call from the big blind. The dealer floated down the {Q-Spades} {10-Clubs} {2-Clubs} from the air and the boys started to play. Smith checked, Julius bet 180,000 and Smith made the call. Onto the turn and the pair were soon staring at the {7-Clubs}. This time Smith was not prepared to play nice, when he came thundering into the pot with a check-raise for 750,000 (Julius had bet 285,000). Julius stared down the barrel and made the call. The river card was the {8-Clubs} and Smith tapped the felt. Julius studied the face of our chip leader before laying out a cool 1 million and Smith mucked his hand.

Chip Counts
Dan Smith 5,360,000 -1,260,000 neg
Kyle Julius 4,400,000 1,200,000 pos

First blood to Peter Vilandos

Posted 2012-07-01 GMT-6

Peter Vilandos raised to 200,000 on the button and Kyle Julius defended his big blind. The flop was {10-Diamonds} {9-Clubs} {6-Hearts} and Julius check-called a 300,000 Vilandos c-bet. Moving onto fourth street - and the {J-Spades} - and the same action ensued; this time for 500,000.

The final card was the {6-Spades} and Julius led for a teeny-weeny 200,000. Vilandos thought for a moment before moving all-in and Julius laid down his hand.

Welcome to PokerNews' Day 4 coverage of Event 50, the $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em. A field of 1,001 players is down to just three players, each looking to capture the coveted World Series of Poker bracelet, as well as the $952,694 first-place prize. Leading the way is Dan Smith with 6,620,000. He is followed by Kyle Julius with 4,435,000 and Panayote "Peter" Vilandos with 3,955,000.

Dan Smith was one of the hottest players entering the 2012 WSOP with three six-figure victories at the PokerStars and Monte-Carlo® Casino EPT Grand Final in April. He has four WSOP cashes this summer and his fifth is guaranteed to be his largest career WSOP cash.

Kyle Julius also has four WSOP cashes this summer and has guaranteed himself his first live six-figure score with his performance in this event. However, he is no stranger to live success as this past January he earned $1,500,000 for his runner-up showing in the PokerStars Caribbean Adventure Main Event.

Panayote "Peter" Vilandos is looking to capture his third WSOP bracelet today. Back in 1995, he won a $1,500 Pot-Limit Hold'em event and followed that in 2009 by taking down a $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em event.

Play is set to begin at 2:00 PM local time, about fifteen minutes from now, so keep here to see which of these three becomes the newest WSOP bracelet winner!
