Just as the WPT London Poker Classic kicks off, Australia’s own Tony G had a few interesting comments on his Party Poker Blog about a challenge with none other than the fastest man in the world – Usain Bolt. Apparently Bolt was spotted at the reception of the Mayfair Hotel which is the venue of the WPT London Poker Classic Event. The G tried to catch up with the sporting star as he commented,“Somebody called me but you guessed it – Usain had bolted!”

It was roughly 18 months ago that Tom ‘Durrrr’ Dwan and Patrik Antonius started the inaugural and seemingly never ending “Durrrr Challenge”. Cut to just days ago and we would witness the beginning of the sequel to be played concurrently with the original challenge. This time it would be with Daniel ‘jungleman12’ Cates. The young high stakes pro has impressed in recent times as a player who will take on all comers. This is proven once again by his insistence in taking on the Durrrr Challenge.

Traditionally the Asian Poker Tour has been renowned for their legendary parties and glamourous promotional models, but in between the fun, drinks and entertainment, there is also a poker tournament with hundreds of thousands of dollars given away this week at the APT Manila, culminating in the US$2,700 Main Event. 227 players headed to the Resorts World Casino in Manila, Philippines for the APT Philippines Main Event and after four days of play it was local Michael Cua who captured the trophy and the US$176,700 in prize money.

Most players who make the transition from Hold’em to Omaha will notice a lot of similarities in the way both games are played. For example, both games have community cards for everyone to use. The reason why I say this so bluntly, is because there is often a misconception that made hand values are the same, when this is in fact quite far from the case. I’m going to use the example of flopping two pair on a reasonably unconnected board to show what I’m talking about.

The 2010 Victorian Poker Championships has come to a close as PokerNetworker Michael “ITSOVER9000” Egan has been crowned champion of the $2,700 Main Event! On Saturday, 269 players formed one of the most highly skilled and talented fields the Crown Poker Room has seen this year. Old-school veterans, online phenoms, tournament junkies and everyday amateurs from around the country sat down to emulate the feats of previous champions Albert Amato, Jay Kinkade, Graeme Putt and Mike Ivin.

With play starting to wrap up on the live felt at the Victorian Poker Championships at Crown Casino in Melbourne, the action was heating up on the virtual felt as the young-gun Internet players woke up nice and early to grind out the majors. Ben ‘delaney_kid’ Delaney was among those, and he managed a nice score, finishing 2nd in the $150,000 Guarantee on Full Tilt Poker for $37,495 but it would not be the biggest score of the day.

It’s the age old question…(well it’s five to six years old at least)… It was around the time when a lot of us noticed the World Poker Tour on TV or some guy named Joe Hachem winning millions in the WSOP Main Event in Las Vegas, and thought to ourselves “Yeah I play 50c/$1 Manila home games, surely I could play poker for a living?” Well exactly how hard is it…? How many of us have since tried and failed or are still aspiring to be “professional poker players”?

I stare at the monitor. It is blank. Utterly non-responsive. This is the second time I've broken the laptop. I've just smashed the keyboard with my fist after losing with QQ v A2 on the bubble of a WSOP satellite on PokerStars. Now the screen sits there, mocking my rage with its indifference. I stand up and pace around the room, running bad beats through my head, clenching and unclenching my fists. Sure, I've only busted my laptop twice in two years, but that's twice too many.

We all know the scene… You are in a tournament in your local poker room, and you go for it; you re-raise all in! Your opponent who has over half his chips in the middle goes into the tank for a minute, then another minute, then another minute… Sigh. Why do relatively simple decisions, that even a blindfolded chimp with a pencil in his teeth could conclude, become such a time-wasting, life-draining exercise in a live casino?
