Posted at 16:53 2008-08-08

Forty players made their way down to the Las Vegas poker room to compete in the last of the morning tournaments; and this time it would be in the game of razz. With a field including Michael Tomeny, Peter Aristidou, Marwan Nassif, Trung Tran and Danny Mountt,  Day 5 of the 2008 Victorian Poker Championships would include the second final table for Trung ‘DYnaSTyZz ‘ Tran as he placed second in the $100 Razz, following 3rd in the 7-Card Stud the day before.

1st – Neil Stephensen $1,190
2nd – Trung Tran $850
3rd – Karl Krautschneider $595
4th – Michael Tomeny $425
5th – Benjamin Woodland $340

Today also saw Day 1 Flight 1 of Event #5: $550 No Limit Holdem $250,000 Guarantee starting at 7:10pm.  Players that have eliminated on the opening two flights have the option to re-enter on Saturday (repechage); this not only boosts the guaranteed prizepool but also provides the players with a second chance in a tournament with an expected first prize of around $60,000.

Today’s field featured the likes of Leo Boxell, Emmanuel ‘Curly’ Seal, Zhi Hong Ma, Jonathan Karamalikis, Zhi Hong Ma, Van Marcus, Sarah Bilney and Marlon Goonawardana. With the State of Origin starting tomorrow night we also saw the arrival of the interstaters including Eric Assadourian, Max Veenhuyzen, Colin Peckover, Kenny Ng, Jamie Pickering and Michael Pedley.

With 261 starters, the field would be worked down to only 41 players with young Sydney-sider Brendan Edmonds taking control in the late stages of play to emerge as the chip leader with 119,350 in chips; a near four times average stack. He would still have some work to do as sitting close behind is Bao Hoang (102,625) and Colin Peckover (65,900).

Join us tomorrow from 6:10pm as the feature event of the Victorian Poker Championships begin with the State of Origin kicking off. Live reporting will be brought to you by the team at Poker Network and can be found at http://www.pokernetwork.com/reporting.
