Posted at 21:04 2009-01-10
Day 1b of Event 1: $1,100 No Limit Hold’em kicked off today with 389 entrants bringing the total number of players events to 731. With the guarantee being smashed by over $230,000 it was no surprise to see the likes of Tony G, Jason Gray, Tino Lechich, David Bach, Josh “JJProdigy” Field, James Broom, David Steicke, Eric Assadourian and Australian golfer Brett Ogle in the field.
There was plenty of action early with 2008 Western Classic Champion Marc Des Anges out the door, soon to be followed by Jonathan “xMONSTERxDONGx” Karamalikis and Andrew Scott, as ‘larger-then-life’ Tony G, Eric Assadourian and Gary Benson all made late arrivals.
Josh “JJProdigy” Field, Jarred “FlopNutsOnYou” Graham, Michael “TheBigSiCkO” Guzzardi and Joel “StrongPlay” Dodds were all sent back to the online felt as a prizepool was announced with the winner looking forward to a $150,000 pay day.
David Steicke continued his tournament domination moving up the chip count leaderboard along with Paul Rochford and Jim Ghobrial by his side. Tony G would fall at the hands of Rochford’s pocket aces, and with Jarred Graham, Jason Gray and David Steicke out of the way Dean Blatt would emerge as the day 1b chip leader holding 145,300 in chips.
Joining the 54 players from yesterday, 58 went through today to take the day 2 starting field to 112. Ben Delaney (80,000), James Broom (47,300) and Jozef Berec (35,300) will all be returning to the felt to battle for the $150,000 first prize, coveted gold ring and title of Event 1 Champion of the 2009 Aussie Millions Poker Championships.
