2010 Pokerama Australian Deaf Poker Championships Coming To Melbourne

After the success of the 2009 Australian Deaf Poker Championship in Sydney, which attracted 88 players from around the country, Deaf Poker Australia (DPA) is preparing for the second instalment of this unique community poker tournament.
On October 8th and 9th 2010, Melbourne will play host to the 2010 Pokerama Australian Deaf Poker Championship and it is expected that up to 100 Deaf, Hard of Hearing and Hearing Impaired members of the community will participate in the tournament. This year, the DPA have formed a working partnership with specialist poker tournament provider Pokerama.
Established in 2007, Pokerama is a Victorian-based company that excels in the poker entertainment industry, specifically catering to corporate and private groups. Pokerama will be offering their full services for the event.
The 2010 Pokerama Australian Deaf Poker Championship will feature a deep stack tournament structure and for the first time, dealers will be supplied at every table, giving the participants the ultimate poker experience. The 2010 Pokerama Australian Deaf Poker Championship is similar to a normal poker tournament, with the exception of players being able to communicate in Auslan (Australian Sign Language) whilst at the tables.
The Local Hotel in Port Melbourne (www.thelocalportmelbourne.com.au) will be the venue for both the tournament and the Welcome Night, a unique feature of all Deaf community events where players, volunteers and supporters alike will get the chance to socialise and have fun, as well as provide an opportunity for beginners to learn how to play before the tournament begins.
“Thanks to Pokerama, this year’s event will closely resemble the structure of a mainstream poker tournament,” said DPA President and Founding Member, Sokong Kim. “We are hoping to bring out the best deaf poker players from around Australia to battle it out for the title!”
