2011 Adelaide Poker Champs Only Just Beginning

The Adelaide Poker Championship is steadily becoming one of the most popular stops on the Australian poker circuit and 2011 is set to be a massive event yet again as a big week of action kicked off early yesterday.

 

Taking place in the SKYCITY Poker Zone from October 21st - 29th, the Adelaide Poker Champs feature 13 events over the nine day period, with the series culminating in the $1,500  Main Event  this coming Thursday, the 27th of October.

 

The action started yesterday with the opening event being a $150 Teams Event. A long day of tough poker came to its climactic finish late last night with the duo of Mathew Laird and Ryan Boswell too good for their competition. The event saw 50 teams take to the felt making for a $6,000 prize pool which Laird and Boswell took $2,280 of for their 1st place finish.

 

Today also saw the 2011 Australian Deaf Poker Championship kick off as part of the Adelaide Champs schedule. The $100 buy-in event is an event which promotes the fantastic cause of Deaf Poker Australia which is a not-for-profit organisation which "aims to promote and develop poker within the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community around Australia."

 

Along with the plethora of events including tournaments ranging from Pot Limit Omaha to Crazy Pineapple, the Adelaide Champs will also play host to the "Karamalikis Cup." The $2,750 buy-in event kicks off this Wednesday, the 26th of October and will be played in the popular 6-Max format. The Karamalikis Cup is expected to play host to some of nations best poker players, including the tournaments name-sake and one of the most successful Australian players of all time- Jonathan Karamalikis.

 

The Adelaide Poker Champs Main Event is the event the that all players will have their eyes set on and is set to feature a stacked field when it launches this Thursday. The Main Event sees player start with a monster 40,000-chip stack and with plenty of time to play with the 40-minute blind levels. The Poker Zone will be hosting satellites throughout the schedule for those who are in town and looking to turn a small investment into big cash.

 

The 2010 Adelaide Champs Main Event was won by well-known Aussie Sean Dunwoodie and this year's event is looking set to offer a similar prize pool which saw Dunwoodie pocket $54,440.
