PokerStars Macau is set to be bigger than ever in 2011. Players all over the Asia-Pacific are gearing up for what will be the fifth and biggest schedule of poker action in Asia’s gambling capital to date.
PokerStars have announced four headline tournaments throughout the year, along with a series of side and smaller events to support their drawcard events. The first major event of the year will take place in late February with the Macau Poker Cup running from February 21-27. PokerStars Macau will then play host to the Macau Millions (April), Macau Poker Cup Championship (October), and the APPT Macau (November).
The schedule was not the only exciting announcement from the Asian Poker Room. The 2011 Macau Poker Cup will see changes to the structure in the hope that it will see even bigger fields than the growth from the last two years. Players in the Red Dragon Main Event will be paying a slightly larger buy-in, but will have a 50% larger starting stack of 15,000 chips. According to PokerStars this is to cater for a growing demand for better structured events at the room.
The larger buy-in has another in-built advantage – a larger prize pool. PokerStars have upped the guarantee to almost AU$400,000, as with most PokerStars events you can expect that figure to be smashed with a monster field on hand. The growth of the Macau Poker Cup has been phenomenal. Just 33 players were in the field for the first event back in 2008, but 247 runners played in 2009, with the 2010 field rising to 321 players. 2011 should see that number over 400 players with the bigger buy-in expected to attract players from all over Asia and the Pan-Pacific region.
The February Macau Poker Cup has also been expanded to a full week schedule from the previous five days of action. Players will be able to compete in six championship events, along with a number of other side action options. The schedule is available below.
