2014 Aussie Millions Main Event Partners with APPT

Today marks a huge day for Australian poker with Crown Melbourne reaching an agreement for the 2014 Aussie Millions Main Event to become part of the Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT).

"The Aussie Millions is regarded as one of the marquee poker events globally," Crown Resorts Chief Operating Officer Xavier Walsh said in a statement. "And by aligning with the biggest poker tour in the region, the Asia Pacific Poker Tour, will further guarantee the event's success in coming years."

Walsh also added, "‘This initiative will provide Crown with significant exposure in Asia, Europe and America, and forms an integral part of Crown’s global marketing strategy to attract further international visitors to Australia and Crown Melbourne."

The APPT has totally transformed poker in the Asia Pacific region since its conception in 2007 creating a premier poker tour that has helped in developing and growing the game of poker while also expanding mainstream poker to new and remote spots such as Macau, South Korea and the Philippines.

"The Aussie Millions becoming part of the APPT is a great fit for both Crown Melbourne and Global Poker Tours Ltd," APPT President Danny McDonagh said. "Linking one of the best tournaments in the Asia-Pacific with the region’s biggest poker tour benefits everyone. Personally, I can't wait to again be actively involved in one of the very top big buy-in events in the world."

The upside for the Aussie Millions is huge as the Main Event will likely eclipse the biggest numbers it has had to date (2008 Aussie Millions Main Event, 780 players, $7,758,500 prizepool), however the downside is that there will be no stand-alone APPT Melbourne like previous years.
