While Jonathan Karamalikis continues to dominate the Australian online poker rankings, his grip on the title of best live poker tournament players has loosened and he has slipped to fourth in the country. Soaring above Mr “xMONSTERxDONGx” in the Global Poker Index rankings are Brendon Rubie, Jeffrey Rossiter and the current number one, Aaron Lim.
Lim has been in scintillating form for the past year, helping himself to huge score with apparent ease. In September 2012, Lim navigated his way through a stacked field in the Partouche Poker Tour Main Event and came extremely close to winning the tournament. Lim eventually crashed out in third place, a result worth €417,499.
March 2013 saw Lim win the APPT Seoul Main Event and just under a month later, Lim won a World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet when he win the WSOP Asia-Pacific No Limit Hold;em Six-Handed event. But Lim was still not done. Far from it. Two weeks after securing his first WSOP bracelet, Lim headed to Europe where he competed in at the PokerStars European Poker Tour Berlin festival. It turned out to be a great decision because Lim finished second in the €10,000 High Roller for a €240,100 score.
Lim’s impressive form has won him over $1,300,000 in the past 12 months and has seen him soar to the top of the Australian Top 100 ranked players in the Global Poker Index and 47th overall in the world. If Lim can keep up this tremendous run into the 2013 WSOP there is no telling how high he could be ranked.
Second place currently belongs to Rossiter who finds himself ranked 90th in the world, also. Although Rossiter has not helped himself to as much prize money as Lim has over the past six month, he has managed to notch up five qualifying cashes in 2013, including two victories.
Rounding out the top five positions in the Australian Global Poker Index are the aforementioned Rubie and Karamalikis along with Grant Levy, whose final table appearance at the EPT Grand Final Main Event saw his points tally skyrocket.
