Abdulwahab Pips Dunwoodie For Chip Lead on Day 1b of JHDSS Main Event

Following an action-packed day previously, another bout of players took to the felt for Day 1b of the Joe Hachem Deep Stack Series Main Event on Friday.
With roughly three-quarters of the field falling to the rail on Day 1a, it was no surprise to see many returning to battle it out once again thanks to the repechage format – effectively turning their Main Event into a $1,100 one. Andrew Hinrichsen, Raemin Alexander, Andrew Scarf, Peter Aristidou and Sean Dunwoodie were just a select few that did take advantage of a second shell, and unfortunately for Hinrichsen he would be a late arrival and an early casualty as Alexander joined him shortly after.
ANZPT Adelaide Champions Octavian Voegele (2011) and Karl Krautschneider (2009) both found themselves on the rail alongside Aussie Millions Champion David Gorr and fellow tournament stalwarts Leo Boxell, Antonio Casale, Brian Hull and Michael Guttman. PokerNetwork’s Heath ‘Tassie Devil’ Chick and Vincent ‘wonky’ Wan, as well as Tom Wing, Mat Hawker and Tristan Bain also lost their battle today as only 52 of the 151 starters managed to snag a day two berth.
Holding the chip lead for the majority of the day, Sean Dunwoodie would relinquish that late in the last level to tablemate Mustapha Abdulwahab who would pip Dunwoodie by just a few thousand as he bagged an impressive 188,800. Holding a lead over the day 1a chip leader by 3,800, Abdulwahab had Dunwoodie (182,000), Eugene Portlen (142,600) and Antonios Delavinias (109,100) snapping at his heels.
With the day two field now sitting at 114 players, Nobbi Tanaka (97,000), Andrew Scarf (81,900), Peter Aristidou (79,900) and Paul Taylor (56,700) are just a handful of those not having to fire a first, second or even third shell on Day 1c on Saturday.
PokerNetwork will again be on the floor providing the continuous live coverage of all the Day 1c action from 12:10 pm as we look to see a potentially $300,000 prizepool created in the sixth instalment of the Joe Hachem Deep Stack Series Main Event.
