aces_up4108 Wins Online Poker's Triple Crown

Posted at 08:00 2012-05-30 by Barry Gallagher

Australia’s top ranked online player last week, aces_up4108, has won the third Australian triple crown of 2012. Remember, a triple crown is an honour awarded by PocketFives.com for winning three different tournaments on three different online poker sites over a seven day period. The important caveat is that the tournaments must have a prize-pool of at least USD$10,000 and there must be a minimum of 100 entrants. Up until the recent feat, only Trent "Ahurazor" Jones could say he had won an Australian triple crown this year with two to his name.

We reported how aces_up4108 had stormed to the top of the Australian online poker rankings last week jumping from 5th place the week before after a barnstorming week on the felt. He won the $109 No Limit Hold’em on Pokerstars for $8,607 coming through a difficult 453 player field to claim the trophy on the 19th May. The same day he cruised through the $10k GTD No Limit Hold’em on Party Poker to win $2,800 in an event that just made the minimum requirements for the triple crown.

Clearly not one to be content with his lot, he pushed the envelope as the week continued adding another win on PokerStars in the $109 No Limit Hold’em for $5,268 were he defeated 257 players and fellow online poker millionaire DownByDaBridge heads-up on May 23rd. However, the triple crown was still on ice as he required a victory on a third poker site to complete the coup.

The online wizard could crack the champagne on May 25th as he took down the Ongame $100 event for $2,929. The event attracted 122 players but the Australian did enough to win his third career triple crown. However, he obviously didn’t hit the champagne very hard as the very next day he was back to winning ways with a win in the PartyPoker $10,000 GTD Speed event for $2,970.

With yet another triple crown sweat on, aces_up4108 will be hunting for the elusive third win to cap a remarkable few weeks on the virtual felt. There have only been 49 triple crowns awarded this year and three have gone to two Australians.
