"Angie Fitzgerald Wins Lee Nelson Deep Stack Series Main Event!"
March 29, 2010

The inaugural Lee Nelson Deep Stack Series Main Event wrapped up last night in the SKYCITY Auckland Poker Room with Angie “Ice Queen” Fitzgerald doing it for the ladies with a huge victory to become the first female player to win a major SKYCITY Auckland poker tournament. Hailing from Epsom in Auckland, Angie collected NZ$32,610 and the trophy ahead of runner-up Simon Watt, who is well known for his victory in last year’s PokerStars.net APPT Auckland Main Event. Watt picked up NZ$21,600.00 for his second place.

When play began on Saturday, 108 hopefuls hit the felt for the highly anticipated Main Event with some notable faces including SKYCITY Auckland ambassador Brooke Howard-Smith, Dan Sing, Richard Lancaster, comedian Mike King, 2010 Auckland Anniversary Poker Champs winner James Honeybone, Australian Tony Dunst and of course Lee ‘Final Table’ Nelson.

After 12 levels on Day 1, Mike King, Tony Dunst, Simon Watt and James Honeybone had all survived along with 18 other players who would return for Day 2 action on Sunday.

When play recommenced on Day 2, the remaining players started out cautiously to avoid elimination as only the top 11 would finish in the money. As play reached the final table, there was a healthy crowd of over 50 spectators who cheered throughout the evening until a champion was crowned just after midnight local time. Angie Fitzgerald moved all in with quad fours against Simon Watt’s full house to take the title of 2010 SKYCITY Lee Nelson Deep Stack Series Champion!

Final Results:

1st Angie Fitzgerald – Auckland - $32,610
2nd Simon Watt – Auckland - $21,600
