ANZPT hits Gold Coast with the inaugural Australian Poker Hall of Fame Classic

Posted at 18:34 2011-04-25

After three hugely successful events so far, Season 3 of the PokerStars.net Australia New Zealand Poker Tour (ANZPT) will next head north to the sunshine state for the $2,500 ANZPT Gold Coast from May 17th-22nd. It’s one of the most popular events on the tour with Jupiters Casino on the Gold Coast once again playing host. The redeveloped Jupiters Poker Room boasts an impressive sixteen tables and hospitality that is unmatched in the country (trays of fresh sandwiches during the breaks anyone?)

It’s no wonder that it was one of the success stories of the tour last season with a massive field of 287 players with Nauv Kashyap emerging victorious to claim a tidy $182,965 in prize money. This year there will be three opening flights with the Main Event likely to push the cap of 350 players.

Since last year, government legislation has allowed Jupiters to now take an admin fee on poker tournaments, which may not sound great, but in fact it allows Jupiters to run some side events on the schedule for the very first time.

The ANZPT Gold Coast schedule will kick off on Sunday May 15th with a $250+30 Deep Stack Event, while a $220+25 Bounty Event will run on Saturday May 21st during Day 3 of the Main Event. However the big talking point is the special $1,100 Australian Poker Hall of Fame Classic which is scheduled for Sunday May 22nd. It will kick off at 12pm and will run alongside the Main Event final table, to create an excellent atmosphere in the poker room to end a big week on the felt.

The Australian Poker Hall of Fame Classic is the brain child of APHOF Chairman Maurie Pears. The Gold Coast local and Hall of Fame member has been working closely with ANZPT Commissioner Danny McDonagh and Jupiters Poker Room Manager Martin Coughlan to turn his vision into a reality.

“I have been working with Danny and Martin since last year’s ANZPT Gold Coast to create the Australian Poker Hall of Fame Classic, and I hope it will have some good support from those who drop out from the Main Event,” said Pears.

“Everyone is invited to play and we hope to see other casinos take up this idea in due course. It was an idea of mine to promote the Hall of Fame and bring it to public attention.”

Satellites will be run regularly in both Jupiters and Treasury Casinos over the next few weeks to give the chance for locals to participate in the inaugural APHOF Classic. Details as follows:

There will also be a big interstate contingent in attendance, including 2011 Aussie Millions champion David Gorr, while it’s likely that several APHOF members will also play this special event. There is a cap of 120 players at this stage with trophies supplied by Jupiters and a further $1,000 in book prizes from the APHOF and PNW, courtesy of Lee Nelson. If you’d like to be a part of the ANZPT Gold Coast but have spent most of your bankroll on Easter eggs then download PokerStars today and try your luck in one of the many online satellites which are running now. There are sub-satellites running around the clock from just a few small dollars with seat-only and full packages available to be won.
