ANZPT Queensland Kicks Off - Danny Joukhadar Leads The Way!

Posted at 00:32 2009-08-06
Today saw the final stop on the PokerStars.net ANZPT get underway with both the Brisbane and Gold Coast running the $2,500 buy-in Main Event simultaneously at both Conrad Jupiters and Conrad Treasury.

116 players took to the felt today with 62 playing at the Gold Coast and 54 at Brisbane. These included PokerStars.net Team Australia Pros Eric Assadourian, Emad Tahtouh and Tony Hachem along with Danny Joukhadar, David Steicke, Andrew Hinrichsen and local players Stewart Scott, Richard Holmes, Lisa Walsh and Jamie Pickering.

Hinrichsen continued his good form, following his second placing in the recent ANZPT Queenstown event, when he eliminated a player on one of the first few hands holding {Ah}{Ad} against {Kc}{Ks}.

Brendon Rubie was crippled then eliminated as David Steicke and Julian Cohen were late arrivals as the players had to get used to both the use of a “Buck” instead of a Button as well as an unusual raising rule.

Steicke climbed up the counts as Assadourian and Holmes struggled to get any momentum while Milo Nadalin got his {Ac}{As} cracked by Linda Tyler’s {Qd}{Jh} on a board of {5c}{Jd}{6c}{Qc}{Jc}.

Pickering’s attempted squeeze with {Jx}{4x} failed as he hit the rail, only to be followed by locals Walsh and Holmes. Sydney-sider Joukhadar started to surge up the counts after sending an opponent to the rail with the nut-straight against a baby straight while Assadourian was out-kicked to the rail along with Pierre Bush.

Mike Ivin, Sean Rosey and Taner Durust were late eliminations as the 2009 Aussie Millions champ Stewart Scott soared to 130,000 and the clear chip lead before slipping right back into the middle of the pack courtesy of running into a straight and a few other mishaps.

However at the end of the day it would be Danny Joukhadar (116,075) leading the charge along with Daniel Jennings (107,850), Scott Kerr (93,800) and Paul Gibson (92,375) as 60 players survived the day.

With Day 1b expecting to sell out and push the prizepool past $600,000, make sure to log on to PokerNetwork.com from 12:30pm to catch all the live action from both the Gold Coast and Brisbane as we play down to yet another ANZPT Champion!
