ANZPT Sydney - Moussa Leads Day1a

Posted at 10:53 2009-05-01
The second leg of the PokerStars.net ANZPT kicked off today in the harbour city with a very healthy field of 233 players taking to the felt.  Once again the ANZPT brought with it a fantastic atmosphere as all players were clearly enjoying themselves and this tour continues to be played with good spirit.
While flight 1a was the smaller of the two opening flights, there were still plenty of big name players in attendance highlighted by WSOP bracelet winner Jeff Lisandro and PokerStars Team Australia member Eric Assadourian.  Interestingly they ended up on the same table for most of the day, but both managed to accumulate decent stacks to enter day 2 in fine shape.
The field also contains a couple of well known champions.  Karl Krautschneider, winner of the inaugural ANZPT event in Adelaide, was looking to go back-to-back, while 2008 APPT Sydney champ Martin Rowe was making a rare appearance back on his home turf.  However both struggled to get much going and were eliminated during the day.
Other notable players amongst the field were Max Veenhuyzen, Joel Dodds, Trung Tran, Michael Guzzardi, Billy "The Croc" Argyros, Sam Youssef, Andrew Scott, Graeme Putt, Steve Topakas, "Toothpick Tony", Bill Jordanou and Jason Gray.
However the top of the leaderboard would be dominated by some lesser-known players.  As the chips were bagged and tagged with approximately 95 players surviving into Day 2.  They are likely to be led by Joseph Moussa with over 150,000 chips, closely followed by Ola Jernberg, David Zhao, Joey Lawrence and Bruce Nguyen.
Join the PokerNetwork Live Reporting team for Day 2 action tomorrow at 12:30pm as a huge flight 1b field is expected to stretch the capacity of the Star City Poker Room to its limits!  There is an outside chance of a total number of entrants of 500, which would create a magical $1 million prize pool!  will it happen?  Stay tuned to find out!
