Press Release: Monday 27th October – In a major development in free poker in Australia, WIN Corporation Managing Director, David Butorac, today announced WIN has acquired a 50 percent stake in the entertainment brand, Australian Poker League (APL).

The APL has achieved great success in a very short time during the poker boom in Australia, thanks largely to its “free to play” model that has attracted players into pubs and clubs all around the country.

Mr Butorac commented that he was very excited about the opportunities this new partnership delivers. “To take such a large participation social activity and leverage it with our media assets across Australia provides a great environment for growth for both businesses.”

The APL was founded merely three years ago and there are now an estimated two-million poker enthusiasts in Australia from all backgrounds and walks of life. The APL offer free, fun and friendly entertainment for its loyal player base of up to 250,000 players every month. Each week participants play for points that go towards local, state and nationwide honours and major prizes.

This no risk free poker model also stimulates a social and relaxed setting for new players to learn and enjoy the game without any pressures that may occur in a live casino environment.

Mr Butorac continued, “APL is another Australian founded and owned entertainment business that WIN Corporation sees as a natural complement to our expanding business portfolio.“

CEO and Director of APL, Martin Martinez, said APL is extremely excited to partner with a company like WIN Corporation, which already has a diverse portfolio of entertainment brands.

“In 2005, APL pioneered a completely new form of entertainment, transforming poker into a free, fun and exciting sport enjoyed by a young demographic in the best venues around Australia,” Mr Martinez said.

“Free poker represents a growth category in the entertainment sector and after a successful threeyears in the marketplace, joining forces with WIN will help the business take the next step forward.”
