APL’s 2008 Tournament of Champions

In just under 72 hours, Australia’s biggest live poker freeroll will commence on the floor of The Cube Convention and Entertainment Centre in Campbelltown, NSW. The APL’s annual Tournament of Champions (TOC) is a three day long event (August 8-10) featuring huge prize giveaways including a guaranteed $250,000 first prize. The final table will feature a minimum $600,000 payout with the top 100 players guaranteed to go home with some cash in their pockets.

Last year’s TOC title was awarded to local poker player, Rodney Davidson who took home a handsome $300,000 first prize – all after qualifying for a free poker event in Bega. According to the APL, Rodney was so low on funds prior to entering the tournament that he even needed to borrow money for his train fare to the event.

In between tables, players and visitors can enjoy a back-to-back schedule of live entertainment and activities including a concert by local artist, Shannon Noll, live bands every night, an ethnic drum and fire show, as well as sit-n-go tables. Other prizes to be won include three trips to Macau, a scooter (worth $2,500) and a private movie screening for you and 20 friends. Sunday’s celebrity poker challenge will no doubt be popular as the APL has announced confirmed appearances by Jeff Fenech, Evermore, Operator Please, Billy the Kid and a string of other celebrities who will be vying for the $8,000 cash prize to be given away to a charity of their choice.
