The Star Poker Summer Series already had a major sponsor after partnering with the National Poker League (NPL) for their Main Event, but just last week it was announced that The Star have now gone international by joining forces with the Asian Poker Tour (APT).

The APT has been around since 2008 running tournaments in the Philippines, Macau, India, China, Cambodia, Korea and an accredited event in London, but for the first time they are making their way to Australia. Hitching a ride with the highly popular Star Poker Summer Series that features eight events over 10 days, the $2,000 Main Event will be now known as APT Sydney combining the NPL500 and Star Summer Series into one major attraction which is expected to be one of the biggest poker tournament’s in New South Wales history.

CEO of the Asian Poker Tour Jeff Mann stated in a press release the delight to be associated with both the NPL and The Star.

“We are delighted to be associated with the NPL and be part of the impressive and highly popular Star Casino’s Summer Series. This time around we are only associated with the Main Event, but we are looking forward to much stronger ties with the NPL and Star Casino moving forward and thus ensuring an expanding APT presence in Australia”

The NPL has a player base of over 350,000 and their ground-breaking NPL500 has been growing since it was first run at the East Leagues Club in 2010 before moving to The Star last year. 2005 World Series of Poker Champion and spokesperson for the NPL Joe Hachem believes that this is a great opportunity for amateur players in Australia to play with some of the World’s best.

“This event provides poker enthusiasts the opportunity to test their skills not only against the best players from around Australia, but also at an international level now that APT is to be involved in the future,” Joe explained. “It’s this type of event that will produce Australia’s next big poker star.”

Although a $1 million prizepool was expected with the combination of both the NPL500 and Star Poker Summer Series, the added partnership of the APT now means that anywhere up to a $1.5 prizepool could be reached.

APT Sydney will be held at The Star Casino from December 5th – 8th as part of the Star Poker Summer Series which kicks off on November 27th. To find your seat in the APT Sydney Main Event, you can either win a ticket at selected NPL regional and special events, win a seat through a satellite at The Star or buy-in directly.
