"Set alarm for 4:30am......Continued pressing snooze till 6:55am.....Took battery out of mobile phone at 7:00am........Woke to play at 10:30am gogogogo” – PokerNetwork user 'pokerpimp', 17th January 2011
It was the quote that perfectly sums up the Monday morning grind. With the Aussie Millions in full swing the Monday morning gogogogo was always going to be a struggle, but after a whacking snooze a few times and a caffeine hit, a few Aussies took time out from the Aussie Millions for their shot at major online multi-table tournament glory.
Dave “dave798111” Allan provided one of the biggest sweats of the day for PokerNetworkers as he went deep in the Full Tilt Poker $1 Million Guarantee. With over $200k for first, Allan eventually busted in 19th place after flopping a set of jacks on a Q-J-x flop against his opponent’s queen-jack. Unfortunately running spades gave his opponent a backdoor flush and Allan had to console himself with $4,725 in prize money.
Over on PokerStars Tom Wing had a solid run in the Sunday 500 with a 27th place worth $2,154, while “Oz_Hustla” from Sydney was the highest finishing Aussie in the Sunday Million as he picked up $3,817 for his 19th place finish.
One notable player on the grind this Monday was Team PokerStars Pro Lee Nelson who had a deep run in the $109 No Limit Holdem with Rebuys event on PokerStars. Nelson managed to finish in 6th place for a $1,250 score.
There weren’t a lot of other Aussie results of note during the week, but Peter “himalayAAn” Dykes picked up $6,318 for his second place finish in the $33k Guaranteed 1R1A tournament over on Full Tilt.
With the UBOC underway over at UB.com and the FTOPS XIX coming in February there should be plenty of online tournament action to entertain players in between events at the Aussie Millions.
