In the past few weeks James ‘Andy_McLEOD’ Obst has given the WCOOP player of the series award a home in Adelaide, while Jonathan ‘xMONSTERxDONGx’ Karamalikis became the latest resident of the South Australian capital to win a Triple Crown. Adelaide is alive and well as Australia’s hotbed of online poker talent.
It is hardly surprising then, that Ben ‘Barcs69’ Barclay, yet another talented online player hailing from South Australia, had a big week on the online tournament trail. Barcs69 kicked the week off with a $20,000 win in the $80,000 Guaranteed Sniper tournament on Absolute Poker. While that would be his big earner for the week, he also managed to follow it up with a couple of nice encores. A third place finish in an overlaid Full Tilt Poker $75,000 Guaranteed netted him $8,870 and he followed this up with a $3,441 final table in the $25,000 Guaranteed Super Stack tournament, also on Full Tilt. All up, a solid week for a guy on the fringe of the Aussie Top Ten.
There were also reported ‘Seabeast’ sightings on the final table of this week’s Absolute Poker $200,000 guaranteed. Indeed Jay Kinkade got through to third place in the weekly major tournament picking up a decent $18,500 payday. While not focussing on his ranking this year and playing a more limited schedule than previously Kinkade is finding a way to maintain a high standing in the Australian rankings. He is currently fourth in the nation.
David ‘dasve798111’ Allan did nothing to hurt his top ten ranking during the week either. He grinded out multiple decent scores, raking in a total of $18,468 on the week. This included a fourth place in the PokerStars $109 rebuy six max. The $40,000 Guaranteed tournament paid out $7,505 for his final table appearance. There was also another $5,264 for a fourth in Full Tilt Poker’s $50,000 Guaranteed. Allan than picked up a second in Full Tilt’s $14,000 Rebuy event, good for $3,000, to round out his bigger tallies for the week.
It was also a decent week at the tables for ‘Bazooka87’ who took down the Turbo Hundo on Full Tilt Poker for $6,344, before adding scores in the $109 Double Chance on PokerStars ($3,918), $40,000 Guaranteed on PokerStars ($3,536) and $12,500 Guaranteed on Full Tilt Poker ($3,375) all during the same week.
Some other Aussies picked off some good scores during the week including Melbourne’s ‘mjh01222’ who got fourth in Full Tilt Poker’s $100,000 Rebuy for $11,291, having already won the Turbo Fiddy earlier in the week on the same site for $4,604. Andrew ‘Higher Wattage’ Watson got in there for $7,305 after taking out the $24,000 Guaranteed Rebuy on Full Tilt Poker.
All in all a good week of Aussie results as some of the pros work their way back into the game following the madness of the WCOOP period.
