Aussies Online: Broom Cleans Up, Rubie Shines

Posted at 11:39 2010-11-23

It was another stellar week for the Australian online poker community, with James “Jabba” Broom and Brendon Rubie posting some fantastic results this week as the online railbirds watched on another massive Monday morning.

Just after 10pm last night, Rubie pocketed US$21,699.36 after finishing 12th in the FTOPS XVIII $640 Main Event. Rubie was amongst the chip leaders throughout and at one point was holding more than 6.4 million in chips as the tournament was heading towards the final table. However Rubie was unlucky to lose a few crucial flips before moving all-in for his last 873,072 with {Ah}{Qh}. His Russian opponent kasper74 called with {Js}{Jc} and despite flopping the nut flush draw on a flop of {Th}{6h}{4s}, kasper74 improved to a set when the {Jd} fell on the turn and it was good enough to send the Aussie young gun to the rail. It was a solid run from the 20-year-old, outlasting the majority of the 5023-strong field, but in the end it was JhoWn who took it down, scoring a massive US$411,932.13 after a three-way chop agreement.

Earlier that day on Full Tilt Poker, fellow Aussie online grinder risk2Dupisde picked up a chunk of change after a third-place finish in the $150,000 Guaranteed tournament, good for US$29,572.80, after grinding through a field of 1952 players.

Meanwhile over on PokerStars, James Broom, playing under the name j_t_s80, tore through the Sunday Million to finish third, taking home a whopping US$128,625 for the biggest Aussie score of the day. Jay shaihulud Kinkade also got props on the weekly “gogogogogo” thread, adding another $9,615 to his account after finishing in fourth place in the PokerStars $109 NLHE event.

And just after Rubie's run in the FTOPS Main Event, the online railbirds hit Alt+Tab and switched over to the final table of the PokerStars APCOOP $22 NLHE 2x Chance Turbo to watch Steve Stev0L_ Leonard at work as he finished in fourth place for $1,167.36.
