With the World Series in full swing during June, most of the poker community’s attention was turned to the premiere live tournament on the calendar. That left an opening on the virtual felt for several lower profile online grinders to step up to the plate and make a name for themselves, and some of them took the opportunity with both hands.
Fresh off a deep run in the FTOPS Main Event Kenn121 continued his recent scorching form, by carving out a 100k month. Head and shoulders above the rest Kenn121’s month consisted of a massive 116 cashes, 29 final tables and three wins for US$104,462. His biggest pay-day was in Full Tilt Poker's Sunday Mulligan when he was awarded US$39,620 for a second place finish.
Kenn121’s recent high volume heroics has been recognised in the Australian rankings with him moving up to third, after being a long-time fringe dweller in the top ten.
Zedveron was yet another Aussie ceasing an opportunity. He consolidated a spot in the Australian top ten with a US$68,574 month. Zedveron recorded a total of 80 cashes, 20 final tables, and three victories during June.
The big name’s kept themselves busy on the live felt, with StevoL the best amongst the usual suspects. His US$45,247 month was rather quiet by his usual standards.
PokerNetwork member Minesony delivered one of the bigger results by an Aussie in June by winning the “Sunday Second Chance” on PokerStars for US$47,304.
It’s not just the Australians who are distracted by the Vegas lights; many of the world’s top online players have taken time out to have a shot at a bracelet. In the world rankings SEABEAST is down only two spots to 21st, while StevoL has dropped to 99th, after sitting 88th last month.
The Australian rankings have seen a slight shake-up with Kenn121 gate-crashing the top three, and Andy McLeod dropping to fourth.
July will see the action online heat up again with the World Series of Poker drawing to a close. Attention will begin turning to the World Championship of Online Poker scheduled for September. Satellites which to the biggest event online begin on Thursday, July 8 at PokerStars and are sure to be supported by a heavy Australian contingent.
