Aussies Online: New Years Good Tidings for the Aussies!

Many players chose to sit out over the Christmas and New Year period, but for some the lure of softer fields and overlays was too tempting and they were duly rewarded with a bit of extra value in some of the regular guarantees.
Ironically some of the biggest winners of the week would not be taking advantage of an overlaid field in his tournament. Chris ‘PokerDomeAA’ Levick made it through a 1,528 player field in the Sunday Second Chance to the final table. The tournament guarantees $250,000 each week and with $200 per entry going to the prizepool, this week the tourney would pay out a total of $305,600. Levick ended up finishing sixth to add $12,988 to his PokerStars account balance. Also going deep in the same event was Tony ‘Bond18’ Dunst who finished in 12th place for $2,903.
Ben ‘bennybunny18’ Richardson has certainly started the 2011 on the right foot. He has one day remaining to catch another win to earn his maiden Triple Crown award after picking up a win last Tuesday in Full Tilt Poker’s Fifty-Fifty tournament for $9,879, before hitting up a $2,869 win in the Ultimate Bet $8,000 guaranteed (posted a $10,829 prizepool). Richardson can complete the Triple Crown with a victory in any tournament with a $10,000 prizepool on any of the other ranked sites before a week has elapsed from the first result counting towards the Crown.
Patrick ‘cptwingrave’ Woodley has picked up 2011 right where left off in 2010. That is dominating the $30,000 guaranteed, $55 single rebuy and add on tournament at PokerStars. Woodley finished 2010 with a fourth place finish in the tournament for $3,628. He then welcomed 2011 by winning the same tournament a few days later for $8,580.
Andrew ‘Higher Wattage’ Watson had the perfect cure for a New Years Eve hangover - win $5,272 in Full Tilt Poker’s $18,500 guaranteed on New Year’s Day. If he had a big New Years he may have still been feeling the effects on January 2. No problem chalk up another win that day for $3,333 in the $12,500 guaranteed rebuy also on Full Tilt.
After taking most of December off Jonathan ‘xMONSTERxDONGx’ Karamalikis looks like he is back at work after final tabling the Friday Night Fight on Full Tilt Poker for $2,100 and hitting another $4,343 after winning $15,000 Turbo on PokerStars.
Rick ‘Rickwaa’ Kroesen and Luke ‘LukeM’ McLean also rate a mention in amongst the results during the week. Kroesen finished second in the $25,000 Guaranteed on PokerStars for $6,413, while McLean final tabled PokerStars’ $25,000 Guaranteed and came up with a sixth for $5,832.
Overall a busy start to the New Year that will see players jetting out for the PCA in the Bahamas shortly before turning their attention the Aussie Millions and the ANZPT in Adelaide. For those hoping to hit an online score, don’t forget to check out the satellites running for the UBOC on Ultimate Bet and Absolute Poker in a couple of weeks.
