With the rush of Christmas time and the excitement of bringing in the New Year all over, many folk elect to use these hotter weeks as a chance to unwind and take much needed holidays before the year long grind begins in 2011. For poker players the grind never ends and this last week was no exception.

Many players have started the year with a bang, with Liam ‘RAWKZ’ O’Rourke, Sam ‘MILF ISLAND’ Rotar and Mathew ‘brownie682’ Brown among those who have taken home some nice scores in the last 7 days.

Brown started the week off strong, first making a deep run in the PokerStars Wednesday Quarter Million, taking 10th for $3,133. That same day, Brown managed to take home a victory in the $33,000 Guaranteed on Full Tilt Poker. The event, which featured one re-buy and one add-on, added $20,124 to Brown’s bankroll. As the week came to an end, Brown would again be in sight of another big score but fell short of a win, finishing 6th for $4,576 over at PokerStars.

Rotar found himself at several final tables during the week, bringing home in excess of $25,000 in prize money. His biggest scorecame early in the week, where a 2nd in the Full Tilt Poker $75,000 Guarantee would be good for $16,335.

After a stellar 2010, O’Rourke is again finding a way to bring home the big scores early in 2011. Five deep runs across PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker during the week netted O’Rourke five figures before his biggest score of the week came with a runner-up result in the PokerStars $109 1r1a for $11,063.

With the Aussie Millions just around the corner, many players would have been looking to use this week as a time to brush up on their skills and hopefully find some good form to take into Crown Casino in the coming weeks. It was 2009 Main Event Champion Stewart Scott who did just that. Known online as ‘juzlearnin’, Scott made a deep final table run in the PokerStars Nightly Hundred Grand, turning his $162 investment into a $14,467 score.

Michael ‘m_hawk_1’ Hawkins knows all too well what it feels like to take home the big bickies, with an FTOPS jersey included on his resume. A 2nd in the PokerStars Nightly $70,000 during the week saw Hawkins add $10,592 to career online earnings in excess of $1,000,000, putting Hawkins in an elite field of Aussie online poker players.

Some other notable winners for the week included Kris ‘ibluffheaps’ Cunz, who took 4th in the UB $50,000 Guarantee for $9,250. Mathew ‘mathawker’ Hawker added $9,845 to his bankroll when he won the PokerStars $11 Rebuy event. Dean ‘Dinhjo’ Nyberg picked up a win in the Full Tilt Poker $40,000 Guarantee for $14,400, while a 3rd in the Nightly Ninety Grand on PokerStars was good for $10,878 for ‘mick_allin’.

The poker world will have its attention firmly planted on Australia later this week when the Aussie Millions kicks off at Crown Casino in Melbourne, so expect the online community to be busy trying to bring home the millions on offer against the best players in the world.
