Australia’s Brendon Rubie Second in Chips in WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star

The World Poker Tour Bay 101 Shooting Star Main Event is in its final stages where just 44 of the 643 players who started remain. Leading the way is Paul Volpe with 1,394,000 chips but in second place is Australian Brendon Rubie and his 988,000 stack.

Volpe, better known in the online poker community as “paulgees81,” is on a real heater at the moment. Just a few days ago Volpe finished second in the WPT L.A. Poker Classic for a $651,170 score and now he has put himself in a great position to go on and win the $1,138,350 first place prize in this event.

Although Volpe has a 406,000 chips more than anyone else in the field his victory is certainly not a foregone conclusion as there are still a plethora of fantastic poker players still in with a chance of Bay 101 glory. One such player is the aforementioned Aussie, Rubie, who will definitely have a say in where the title ends up.

The table draw for Day 3 has not been too kind to Rubie who will have to contend with some solid players over on Table 26. Check out where Rubie is going to call home and let us know what you think.

1Todd Terry295,000
2Kathy Leibert208,000
3Somanath Nirakari185,000
4Bertrand “Elky” Grospellier159,000
5Christian Harder607,000
6Numit Agrawal376,000
7Brendon Rubie988,000
8Matt Stout687,000
9Danny Wong353,000

Each of the 44 surviving players has locked up a pay out of at least $19,120 for the efforts, but anyone picking up that amount will be bitterly disappointed as there is over $1,100,000 available for the eventual winner.

Once there are only 36 players left in the field, the play will switch to six-handed and stay that way right up to the televised final table bubble, which will be played seven handed and filmed for broadcast at a later date. The short-handed format should suit Rubie but we will have to wait and see if he managed to progress to the progresses to the WPT Bay 101 Shooting Star final table.
