Australian Online Poker Rankings: aces_up4108 Snatches The Lead!
Posted at 07:30 2012-05-25 by Barry Gallagher
Australia’s top ten online players ranking has a new leader, aces_up4108 made a dramatic assault on the previous leader brownie682. By adding nearly 500 PocketFives.com ranking points to his total from last week he jumped from 5th place to number 1 in the country. There were two new entrants to the exclusive top ten club this week as FUZZBUNGLE and moffo47 made their mark on the virtual felt. However, Wallaby players will need to grind that bit harder to keep up with those based in Costa Rica which after threatening for a while has now moved into 3rd place in the country rankings sending Australia down to 4th overall.
So how did aces_up4108 manage to jump five places in one week? His week got off to a flyer in the high Event 32 of SCOOP which was $2,100 Pot Limit Omaha Hi/Lo as he placed 16th for $5,740. He took down his first tournament of the week on PokerStars by winning the $55 No Limit Hold’em for $1,920 last Friday. The next day in added two more virtual trophies to his locker; he took down the notoriously difficult $109 No Limit Hold’em on PokerStars defeating 453 players for a $8,607 payout and then won the $10k Guaranteed on Party Poker for $2,800. In the medium SCOOP Main Event the Victorian player placed 185th for $3,317 and then in the high Main Event he went super deep to finish 21st for a juicy $31,020 in the $10,300 event. Add in a myriad of other cashes and you have the formula to move up the rankings fast.
Our previous leader brownie682 saw his ranking points fall this week. From his 21 cashes this week only three were four figures. His biggest cash of the week was a tasty one as he finished runner up in the $215 No Limit Hold’em on PokerStars for $9,048. On a final table that featured some of the best online players in the world the Aussie showed some class to go so deep but just failed to seal the deal. His other two noteworthy cashes but came on PokerStars on Sunday; he finished 5th in the $82 No Limit Hold’em Hyper-Turbo 6-Max for $1,483 and 10th in the $265 No Limit Hold’em Knockout Tournament for $1,125.
Jonathan ”xMONSTERxDONGx” Karamalikis hung onto third place for another week and even saw his ranking points increase. This was in spite of a decrease in the amount cashes he notched up. Last week he cashed a huge 41 times while this week he only made the money 15 times. Only two of those occasions were four figure amounts. The first came when he notched up 6th place in the $54 No Limit Hold’em Turbo Knockout on PokerStars for $1,115. The highlight of his week was in the medium SCOOP Event 39 $215 No Limit Hold’em 6-Max there was a monster 5,277 players and MONSTER_DONG finished in 25th place for $4,181. With the WSOP on the cards it is unlikely Karamalikis will be online if he chooses to put in a full schedule in Vegas and we will watch to see if he slips down the rankings.
Outside the top three, BaZa88 was the big story last night as he jumped to second and look set to go to the top of the Australian rankings but he saw his ranking points decrease this week. He had many cashes but the Adelaide man couldn’t manage a single four figure score for a disappointing week by his high standards to drop to 5th in the table. WaGe N WaRz had a rather beautiful Sunday as he added $26,755 to his $998,000 in online tournament earnings by taking 2nd spot in the Ongame $190 No Limit Hold’em on bwin.
Dylan “WhiteRabbito” Honeyman had a seriously good week; the grinder had three five figure scores this week. He finished third in the $109 No Limit Hold’em on PokerStars for $16,527. He finished one place higher the next day in the $320 No Limit Hold’em again on Stars this time earning himself $20,092. His final big score of the week came in the medium SCOOP $1,050 Main Event as he came in 12th spot for a $21,937 score. Our eighth place holder, tollgate, crossed the $2 million mark in online tournament earnings this week. His $21,768 payment for taking down the $320 Wednesday Hundred Grand on PokerStars set him on his way to cross the massive threshold in his poker career.
It was a very exciting week in the Australian top ten online tournament poker rankings. We have a new leader in aces_up4108 and several of the elite ten managed massive scores. However, the competition is stiff in the online poker world and despite this great week Australia has dropped in the overall rankings.
