Australian Online Poker Rankings: Wakeman Opens a Huge Lead

Posted at 11:45 2013-06-24 by Matthew Pitt

Last week, Matthew Wakeman climbed to the top of the Australian online poker rankings, knocking Jonathan Karamalikis off his lofty perch for the first time in several months. Fast forward to this wee and Wakeman is still number one, and by a considerable margin.

Wakeman’s form is blistering at the moment; nobody can touch the man! On Monday, Wakeman won the $215 NL Hold’em Turbo at PokerStars for $9,288 and came second in the $109 NL Hold’em Turbo 1R1A for $5,937, also at PokerStars.

The following day, Wakeman took down the $55 rebuy turbo Big Antes at PokerStars for an additional $5,138 and won the $15,000 guaranteed rebuy at Titan Poker for $4,106! Wakeman’s recent turn in form has seen him not only top the Australian rankings but also climb to 16th in the world overall. If he can continue playing and running like he is then a top 10 worldwide slot should be his in a matter of weeks.

The only change in the current Australian top 10 is Michael “m_hawk_1” Hawkins climbing from ninth place into seventh. Hawkins won The Ceratops tournament at Full Tilt Poker last Sunday for $7,012 and had a deep run in the Sunday 2nd Chance at PokerStars where he crashed out in 13th place.
