The Treasury Casino and Hotel is the venue for the eagerly anticipated Brisbane Poker Championships, which is due to begin on Dec. 13 and run through to Dec. 16.
The Brisbane Poker Championships is a $1,500 buy-in No Limit Hold’em tournament that will almost certainly attract some of the best poker players from all around the country. Players in the Main Event will receive a generous helping of 20,000 tournament chips and will play to a 45-minute clock that sees blinds start at just 25/50; this means starting stacks will be 400 big blinds deep when the tournament begins.

According to the Treasury Casino and Hotel website, there could be a first place prize of almost $105,000 up for grabs, but for that to happen there will need to be at least 300 players prepared to part company with the $1,375+$125. With Christmas on the horizon, money may be tight for some, so the Treasury will be running a plethora of satellite tournaments over the next few days that have buy-ins of $75, $165 and $320.
For those unfortunate souls who do not make it through to the finale there will cash games taking place at the Elizabeth Street end of the casino from 10:00 each morning. The smallest stakes available are $2/$3 with a minimum buy-in of $100 but stakes of up to $10/$20 are available if there is a demand for them.
This will be the first major tournament held at the Treasury since the Treasury Poker Masters back in July. On that occasion, 176 players bought into the $1,000 event and Mishel Anunu (pictured), who walked away with a bankroll-boosting $46,640, outlasted them all. There should have been a WPPT Brisbane leg held at the casino in August, but it was postponed until a yet-to-be-decided date in 2013.
