The third and final opportunity for players to hit the Star City Poker Room felt saw 146 players enter Day 1c of the 2010 PokerStars.net APPT Grand Final. This took the total number of entrants for the event to 289 which is significantly down on last year’s number of 396. The top 32 players will finish in the money with first place set to collect a handsome $459,510.
The field was a loaded one highlighted by 2003 World Champion Chris Moneymaker and fellow Team PokerStars Pros Joe Hachem, Lee Nelson and Tony Hachem. Reigning Aussie Millions champ Tyron Krost was present, and he was joined by the late arrival of fellow Party Poker pro Tony G.
Also in the field was the UK’s Roland de Wolfe who was a surprise starter. De Wolfe is out in Australia to follow the English cricket team in the Ashes, and only found out about this tournament a few days earlier.
We also saw many of Australia’s young guns out in force with Jarred Graham, James Obst, Dean Nyberg, Yann Pauchon and Aleks Brkovic in the field.
It was Brkovic who would trump them all as he bagged up 129,100 for the end-of-day chip lead. Interestlingly this was the lowest end-of-day amount, despite the flight having over twice as many players as the previous two.
Moneymaker and Hachem junior were unable to survive the day, but Hachem senior made it through comfortably while Nelson is on the short stack to fly the flag for Team PokerStars.
During the day PokerNews' hostess Lynn Gilmartin caught up with Tony G for a quick chat...
Here’s the top ten chip counts:
Aleks Brkovic – 129,100
Antonis Kambouroglou – 119,200
Andrew Hiscox – 107,600
Barry Forrester – 107,200

Andrew Kanaridis – 96,800
Jarrad Graham – 93,000
