The Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) Melbourne festival is in full swing and already it is being billed as one of the biggest and best poker festivals ever to hit the shores of Australia. Two events are in the bag and they will be remember fondly by all who played in them, particularly the men who walked away from the Crown Poker Room victorious in the first two events.
The curtain raiser for APPT Melbourne was the $100,000 guaranteed tournament that cost a paltry $50 to enter. The massive guarantee was not only met but it was beaten, and by over $16,000! By the time the last player was registered there were 2,072 players and 831 add-ons meaning the prize pool swelled to $116,120 – all for just a $50 entry fee.
Each of the 10 players who reached the final table walked away with at least $1,161 for their efforts but Calum Furness left the casino with a bankroll-boosting $22,062 in his back pocket after he outlasted all of his opponents, including his heads-up opponent Busa Kaluntakasuwun, to emerge as champion.

Event #2 was the ever-popular $200 buy-in MEGA sStack tournament that attracted a crowd of 299 players, of which 128 purchased the available add-on. All of these entries created a prize pool of $62,350; the lion's share of which finding its way to Alfred Grech whose win netted him $12,475. Not bad pay for a couple of day's work!
