Chasing the poker dream is all about winning a trophy in a big live tournament, and for most, the first step in reaching that dream is through an online poker satellite.
With the many poker professionals earning their keep on the virtual felt nowadays, the interest in playing live tournaments around the country and world tends to peak when a large pay packet can be earned to reward the several days of slogging it out on the felt. Costs of travel, accommodation and other expenses all weigh heavily into a player’s decision of whether or not to play a particular poker tournament ahead of grinding at home in a dressing gown and slippers, but that motto of you’ve gotta spend money to make money doesn’t hold more true when taking a shot at a big buy-in poker tournament.
Fortunately getting to play in a big buy-in tournament can often be a lot easier and cheaper than it sounds with the plethora of online poker satellites around at the moment. PokerNetwork has put together a list of some upcoming events, with satellites starting from as little as one dollar to take your shot in snatching an elusive live tournament title.
World Series of Poker
Everyone is aware of the upcoming World Series of Poker (May 31st – July 19th, 2011) that will see fifty-eight events grace the floors of the Rio All Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Playing in the WSOP is a dream come true for most poker players, and often making the trek across to Sin City is an expensive proposition that it out of reach.
However most poker sites are now running online satellites, with step tournaments starting from freerolls or just a few dollars, with massive $15,000 packages to be won that include flights, accommodation, VIP treatment, parties and of course, entry into the 2011 WSOP Main Event.
Some of the sites that have launched WSOP satellites include Full Tilt Poker, PKR, Party Poker and Rox Poker. Check out PokerNetwork’s dedicated WSOP page for the latest WSOP news and promotions.
Australia New Zealand Poker Tour
With the ANZPT being the poker tour defining the local tournament circuit, it is no surprise to see that its success keeps blooming with every tournament it holds. ANZPT Sydney (April 13th – 17th), Gold Coast (May 17th – 22nd) and Canberra (June 10th – 13th) are the next three stops on the schedule, and sit very nicely spaced if you opt to sit out the WSOP.
With buy-ins of $2,200 (Sydney and Canberra) and $2,500 (Gold Coast), some may find this to be a big chunk of their bankroll, but don’t worry because PokerStars have satellites running virtually every day. From freerolls to rebuys to single-seat qualifiers, there are many ways for you to win your seat into one of the upcoming ANZPTs, but if you miss your chance to qualify for one of the above mentioned stops, then Queenstown, Melbourne and Darwin will close off the third series with dates yet to be confirmed.
