Chris Levick Wins ANZPT Melbourne!

It’s mid-week here at the Melbourne Poker Championships, and today saw the highlight of the PokerStars.net ANZPT Melbourne Main Event Final Table getting under way!

Nine hopefuls with a mix of local favourites and interstaters made up the final table that lined up as following.
Seat 1: Heath 'TassieDevil' Chick (283,000)
Seat 2: Rodney Burles (168,000)
Seat 3: Sam Khouiss (354,000)
Seat 4: Chris Levick (969,000)
Seat 5: Jie Gao (517,000)
Seat 6: Ben Savage (682,000)
Seat 7: Gregory Shillig (190,000)
Seat 8: Peter Aristidou (432,000)
Seat 9: Kristian Lunardi (713,000)

One Tasmanian fell first with Rodney Burles running his {10s}{10c} into Chris Levick’s pocket queens as Khouiss started to stuggle and Heath ‘TassieDevil’ Chick found a needed double through local Ben Savage.

Levick continued to steam roll the table as fan favourite Peter Aristidou and Chick started motoring moving up the chip counts to sit below Levick. Savage’s top pair would run into the overpair of Levick as Queenslander Gregory Shillig started to build his chip stack. Khouiss continued to slide while one-time chip leader Kristian Lunardi perished when he lost a race with a pair of sevens.

With six players remaining Jie Gao called for his tournament life holding {5s}{5d} but ran into the {As}{Ah} of Levick and his now staggering 2.1 million chip stack. Khouiss then bluffed and tripled up as Aristidou joined in the party, however Khouiss would fall in fifth place when he lost a race to the seemingly unstoppable Levick. Aristidou’s {9d}{9c} would see him in great shape to double through against Levick’s {8c}{8h} but when a dreaded {8s} flopped it would be all over in fourth for the Crown regular.

Shillig perished in third when Levick’s flopped trips held up and just like that we were heads up and playing for over $150,000.
Chris Levick - 3,421,000
Heath 'TassieDevil' Chick - 939,000

Play see-sawed back and forth with Chick getting very low at points before getting two lucky double-ups when his {As}{4h} out-flopped Levick’s {Ad}{Js} and then {9c}{7c} against {Ad}{Qs} when he flopped a pair and then rivered a flush.

Once Levick had pushed past his frustration and regained his composure he grinded back until the final hand came up with Chick holding {Qc}{Qh} against Levick’s {Ah}{Jh}. All the money went in preflop and an Ace on the flop locked victory for Levick as Chick pocketed $103,500 for his second placing.

Levick jumped into the ANZPT Points Championship lead after collecting the $158,050 and two coveted trophies with just one more stop on the schedule to go.

Today also saw the Event 13: $550 No Limit Holdem Six-Handed event take place with 195 starters. Many established players took their seat, but only a lucky bunch of eighteen would sneak into the money. Jimmy Siu, Sean Dunwoodie, Steve Topakas and Bill Jordanou would all pad their wallets.

The final table wasn't decided until the wee hours of the morning and we'll have the results for you as soon as they come to hand.
