Close But No Cigar For Jonathan Karamalikis In The GSOP Grand Final

One of Australia’s leading tournament poker players had a near miss this weekend, narrowly missing out on a massive $203,928.69 pay day in the Grand Series Of Poker 9 (GSOP) Grand Slam.
Jonathan Karamalkis, playing on the Ongame Network under his famous moniker MONSTERxDONG, entered the flagship tournament of the GSOP 9, the $5,000 buy-in Grand Slam, along with 182 of the world’s best poker players and came ever so close to taking it down and the $203,928.69 champion’s prize.
Karamalikis managed to navigate his way through to the final table before finally falling in seventh place, a finish that bagged him an impressive $44,028.28. The deep run also netted Karamalikis 294.51 points in the PocketFives.com Australian leaderboard, which could see him oust James Bills from the top spot that he has claimed as his own for the past month or so.
With the ANZPT Melbourne Main Event about to take place you would think that Australia’s number one ranked live tournament player would be ready to riffle some chips in the Crown Casino, but it appears he has chosen to fly out of Australia and focus his attention on the upcoming Asia Championship of Poker (ACOP).
The ACOP features a whole host of events including the groundbreaking HKD$100,000 Main Event that boasts a HKD$10,000,000 guarantee. The reason the event is groundbreaking is that it will be the first main event in Asia to feature a buy-in that would be the equivalent of USD$10,000 or higher. PokerNetwork is sure Karamalikis will be terrorizing the felt wherever he decides to buy into.
