Comer Leads Victorian Champs Main Event Final Table

After a little over ten levels of intense tournament poker, the 2010 Victorian Poker Championships Main Event has reached the final table with ten deserving players preparing themselves for a potentially life-changing day.

Yesterday saw 97 players return to the Crown Poker Room to battle with Martin Comer leading the charge along with fellow old-school tournament veterans such as David Gorr and Antonis Kambouroglou.

From the early goings casualties flew fast as Manny Stavropoulos, Sam Youssef, James Obst and Julian Cohen barely had time to settle before they found themselves on the rail as the 2005 World Champion Joe Hachem began to climb up the leaderboard.

As the dinner break rolled round, PokerNetwork forum contributors Jarred ‘FlopNutsOnYou’ Graham, Jonathan ‘xMONSTERxDONGx’ Karamalikis, Benn ‘Risk2Dupside’ Skender, Dave ‘leewah’ Lee and Steve ‘doggiepower’ Topakas would all be able to troll the forum as they were bumped prematurely.

With hunger now satisfied, Hachem would have wished he ordered desert after getting his {Kc}{Kd} cracked by Comer’s {Ac}{Kh} when the deviled {As} found its way on the flop to send ‘Tony’s Brother’ to the rail as Comer soared to over half a million chips.

The second Cohen – Hugh – exited just shy of the money along with Dean McIver and Scott Peel before Jason Mann would become the unfortunate bubble boy after seeing his {Ac}{Js} fail to connect against two players – one of which was Cliff Lee and his {As}{Qd}.

With twenty-seven players now guaranteed a $5,000 payday, the speed of eliminations picked up as players with only a few big blinds were unable to gamble a stack as Mitchell Carle (27th), Chris Evans (26th), Peter Peeters (23rd), Trung Tran (21st), Ricky Kroesen (18th), Andrew Demetriou (17th), Sean Keeton (16th), John Dalessandri (14th) and Grant Levy (12th) were all extremely unlucky to survive to the final ten.

Of that final ten, it will again be overnight chip leader Comer leading the charge with an amassed 1,335,000 chip stack. He may be the president of the millionaires club, but Comer has to share the judiciary duties with Kambouroglou (1,220,000) and Michael Egan (1,036,000) as the remainder of the final table fills out as following:

Final Table Line-Up (average stack 672,500)

Seat 1: Michael Egan (1,036,000 in chips)
Seat 2: David Gorr (176,000)
Seat 3: Karib Karib (174,000)
Seat 4: Mishel Anunu (202,000)
Seat 5: Cliff Lee (291,000)
Seat 6: Jackson Zheng (476,000)
Seat 7: Antonis 'Toothpick Tony' Kambouroglou (1,220,000)
Seat 8: Michel Bouskila (908,000)
Seat 9: Josh 'jbrhythm' Barrett (919,000)
Seat 10: Martin Comer (1,335,000)

Tournament stalwarts David Gorr, Karib Karib and Cliff Lee will all be looking to add another notch to their extensive poker accolades, while young guns Jackson Zheng and Josh Barrett will be looking at the $160,700 first prize with wide eyes as they hope to check-raise, bluff and four-bet their way to the first prize and title of champion.

The PokerNetwork Live Reporting Team will be on the floor from 2:00pm onwards as we continue to provide the exclusive coverage of the 2010 Victorian Poker Championships Main Event Final Table!
