Drake Leads Day 2 of ANZPT Darwin Main Event

The players participating in the PokerStars.net ANZPT Darwin Main Event had a nice early finish after the tournament director brought the curtain down on the day's play after just five hours. His reason for doing so? The 47 surviving players from the two starting days were whittled down to just 18 in that time so the decision was taken to pause the tournament and play down to the final table on Day 3.

Roy Hills started the day as the overall chip leader with 61,850 chips but almost immediately after the restart he lost more than half of his stack when his {A-Clubs}{9-Clubs} fell victim to Ryan McKay's {J-Hearts}{9-Hearts} on a board reading [8c7j6s2dTs]. Hills never recovered from this setback and he failed to make it through to the third day of play.

Maybe he can watch the rest of the tournament with Ricky Kroesen as he also did not make it through the day. Kroesen was overjoyed when his {K-Spades}{10-Spades} made a royal flush, the best possible hand in Texas Hold'em, on a {A-Spades}{J-Spades}{7-Spades}{Q-Spades}{6-Diamonds} board against Matthew Spratt but he suffered a number of consecutive losses afterwards and he busted out of the ANZPT Darwin Main Event when he moved all in for his last few thousand chips with {J-Clubs}{8-Clubs} and was looked up by Brett Dannevig holding {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds} and the latter spiked an ace on the flop to send Kroesen home empty handed.

When play was brought to an end shortly after 17:40 in the evening it was Jack Drake (pictured, courtesy of the PokerStars Blog) who had the most chips in his possession, 118,500 to be exact, and he will start Day 3 as the man to catch. There are 18 players remaining in the Main Event and only nine of those will be paid any cash, the other will only have memories and bad beat stories to show for their efforts this past week. Tune in tomorrow to discover who made it to the money and who the unfortunate bubble boy was.
