Dunst Leads APPT Sydney Main Event Day 1a

It was an amazing day at the 2009 PokerStars.net APPT Sydney as Day 1a of the Main Event kicked off with 81 players taking to the felt. While the 30,000-chip start bank allowed players plenty of time to get settled the talk of the town was more about the action off the felt than on it, after a fight broke out in the nearby High Rollers event, bring both events to an unscheduled pause as the scuffle was quickly defused.

Once the dust had settled it was Tony Dunst who emerged the Day 1 chip leader as 51 players made it through to Day 2 action. Dunst received a good portion of his chips when he won a race with {As}{Kd} against the pocket queens of Jason Gray, before his {Ks}{Qs} improved to a straight on a {Js}{tc}{4s} flop against an opponent who had flopped two pair with {Jc}{Ts}.

Others to join Dunst on Day 2 are PokerStars Team Australia Pros Eric Assadourian and Lee Nelson, Graeme Putt, Kent Hunter, Karl Krautschneider, Daniel Kochan, Michael Pedley, Jamie Pickering, Peter Aristidou, Adam Kane, Will Mitchell and the very tall Donna Ciric who spoke to PokerNetwork’s own Lynn Gilmartin during one of the breaks.
