In a continuing trend of massive poker-related events to be popping up around this time of year, PokerStars has announced a 2008 WSOP Main Event heads-up rematch between champion Peter Eastgate (Denmark) and runner-up Ivan Demidov (Russia), to be held online on PokerStars on Friday, June 26, 18:00 ET.
This time around, instead of the USD $9 million, the coveted gold bracelet, the TV cameras, stage lights and massive peanut gallery, they’ll be battling on the virtual felt for their reputations and for charity – Demidov will be looking to rewrite the history books (sort of) and Eastgate will be sure to be fighting tooth and nail to consolidate his championship status. Either way, the real winner will receive $10,000. Eastgate is playing for the Danish Refugee Council and Demidov is representing the Hospice Charity Fund “Vera” INN.
What is also unique about this particular event is that it will begin in exactly the same circumstances as the 15-hour-long heads-up battle that took place at the WSOP Main Event final table last year! Eastgate will begin with the chiplead on 80,300,000, whilst Demidov will be looking at his heads-up starting stack of 56,600,000. Though in last year’s marathon session, the blinds reached 500,000/1,000,000 (the largest in WSOP history), the blinds will be set online to 120,000/240,000 with a running 30,000 ante.
Who will reign supreme in the ultimate poker showdown of ultimate destiny? Will Demidov finally do it and vindicate himself to the world with his prowess, or will Eastgate close the door on this once and for all and prove why he deserves to be the youngest champion in WSOP history? Be sure to log onto PokerStars to catch all the action on the virtual felt!
