For the first time ever, the Sydney Poker Championships are set to blow the roof off the Star City Casino as Sydney gets its chance to shine with a series to attract players of all budgets from all around the country. The week long championships kick off on Monday September 7th and will culminate in the $1,650 No Limit Hold’em Main Event.
With mega-satellites already running regularly at Star City, the Super-Satellite weekend on September 5th and 6th offers Main Event satellites from as little as $225.
The first Championship event kicks off at 6:15pm on Sept 7th and is named in honour of PokerNetwork cult hero Antonis “Toothpick Tony” Kambouroglou, and as such we expect to see a huge turnout for this event. It’s a $550 No Limit Hold’em Deep-stacked event, with a 10k start bank and 30 minute levels set to offer players plenty of game time. It is rumored that all players will receive a free toothpick which must be used for the duration of the tournament.
Tuesday 8th September will see the four-card specialists out in force for the $770 Eric Assadourian Pot Limit Omaha event. This event features an 8k start bank, generous 40 minute levels, and is a second chance format. The action kicks off at 6:15pm.
The ladies will be out on the rail on Wednesday 9th September from 6:15pm for the $1,100 Grant Levy No Limit Hold’em Bounty Event. While the bounty of Grunter will be extra sweet, each bounty will pay $200. Again the 8k start bank and 40 minute levels will provide plenty of game time for players.
The big one arrives on Thursday September 10th as flight 1 of the 2009 Sydney Poker Championships kicks off from 12:30pm. For a $1,650 entry, players will receive a world-class structure with 20k start banks and one hour levels. Flight 2 will be held on Friday September 11th, with the players coming together for the first time on day 2 on Saturday September 12th before the final table on Sunday September 13th.
For those that bust out early from the Main Event, they’ll have a chance to get unstuck with the PokerNetwork $5,200 High Rollers No Limit Hold’em Event kicking off at 6:30pm on Saturday September 12th.
Of course those mere mortals who don’t have a lazy $5k laying around aren’t forgotten with the budget $150 morning series running every day from Sept 7th-9th with a final held on Sept 10th.
