Rosehill Guineas – Race 7
An interesting race here with plenty of these three year olds having genuine claims. Perhaps the most interesting runner is the kiwi Jimmy Choux, a winner of nine of his sixteen starts including two group ones. At his last start he was very impressive winning the NZ Derby and the Australian three year old crop is a very even bunch. Punters have identified him and already he’s been well supported. Anacheeva was the classy Caulfield Guineas winner of last spring and although he hasn’t shown his best form this preparation, his run in the Guineas was solid enough to have some claims here. Light Brigade and Absolutelyawesome both placed in the Randwick Guineas. The former should lead with Nash Rawiller aboard and they will both be suited by the 2,000m. Retrieve was ordinary second up, but he’s fitter now, races well at Rosehill and will definitely appreciate the rise in distance.
Ajax Stakes – Race 5
Pureness looks to be beautifully placed here. He’s being aimed at the Doncaster, has the minimum 52.5kg here and with Glen Boss replacing the apprentice Tommy Berry, he looks set to run a huge race. Conversely Brazilian Pulse has a big task in that she’s a filly giving weight to older more experienced horses. Interestingly she’s also accepted for the third race, but I think she’s vulnerable if they accept in the Ajax. The talented Under The Eiffel has been kept safe by punters and with his brilliant turn of foot he can be very competitive if he gets a tempo to suit. Trader was atrocious at Newcastle last time, but his run prior was very sound and his best form saw him place in the Waterford Crystal Mile on Cox Plate day and a repeat of that would have him right in this.

AFL – Round 1
Aussie rules is back with many fans glad the focus is now on the game itself and less about off field drama. To open the season the Blues ($1.37) are expected to be too strong and experienced for the young Tigers ($3.15), who will be desperate to show more fight than in recent Round 1 encounters. On Friday night, the recent rivalry between the Cats ($2.15) and Saints ($1.72) continues. The Cats are said to be rejuvenated with new coach Chris Scott in charge. But life without superstar Gary Ablett and some key players injured has punters leaning to the Saints. Adelaide ($1.97) host the Hawks ($1.85) in what looks a great match. Once again the Hawks are being spruiked as contenders and they’ll be keen to get a winning start to this season. On Sunday afternoon, the promising Demons ($1.72) meet the ever reliable Swans ($2.15) at the MCG. John Longmire makes his debut as head coach and we can expect the proud Sydney club to be very competitive, while many are expecting the Demons to be pushing into finals contention this year.
NRL – Round 3
Tough start to the season for punters in the NRL with many teams mixing their form. Friday night’s derby between the Titans ($2.15) and the Broncos ($1.73) is always great to watch. The Titans are only struggling, while the Broncos welcome back key players Hannant and Hodges which should be enough to see them prevail. Who knows what to expect in the other Friday night match when the hot and cold Eels ($1.95) play the Rabbitohs ($1.88) who are absolutely desperate to notch a win. The Warriors ($2.18) get their best chance to knock over the Dragons ($1.71) who are struggling with injury concerns and the quick back up from Monday’s game where they were subdued by the Sharks. In a tough match for punters, but probably the game of the round, traditional rivals the Bulldogs ($1.96) meet the Roosters ($1.87), with the Doggies aiming to continue their great start to the season.
