Popular Kiwi James Honeybone has won the title of 2010 SKYCITY Auckland Anniversary Poker Champion after a hard-fought win over the region’s finest players.  James defeated 121 players including well-known pros Martin Cardno and Dan Sing on the final table to collect NZ$36,030 for his win.

The tournament kicked off on Sunday with numbers increased from last year’s event.  Some of the notable local players amongst the field included SKYCITY Poker Ambassador and TV celebrity Brooke Howard-Smith, New Zealand Comedian Mike King, local player Richard Lancaster, who came 5th in last year’s APPT Auckland Main Event, and Dawn Raid Entertainment boss, Brotha D.

35 players made it through to Day 2 action where a large crowd gathered on the rails of the beautiful SKYCITY Auckland Poker Room to see who would take home the title of 2010 SKYCITY Auckland Anniversary Poker Champion.

By 7:30pm the final table of nine players had formed, with play continuing through until 3am when the final hand was dealt. It was Honeybone’s ace-jack all in against Oliver’s pair of kings, with Honeybone making an ace-high flush to take the title of the 2010 SKYCITY Auckland Anniversary Poker Champion!
