Joe Hachem Deep Stack Series 4 Kicks Off

Posted at 16:47 2010-03-22

The ever popular Joe Hachem Deep Stack Series kicked off yesterday with a capacity field of 500 players taking to the Crown Poker Room for the first event on the busy schedule, the $230 No Limit Holdem Opening Event.

The 15k starting stacks and generous levels afforded the players plenty of time to settle in and get into the deep stack groove. There were plenty of familiar faces with players such as Danny Mountt, Bruno Portaro, Dave Lee, Billy Jordanou, Dom and Ang Italiano and the irrepressible Antonio Casale all starters in the event.

One of the great things about the JHDSS is that it presents an opportunity for players who do not have the bankroll for larger buy-in events to showcase their skills in a championship atmosphere in a world class poker venue. As is often the case in these fantastic value tournaments we find the final table has some relative newcomers to poker at Crown and this was certainly the case in Event 1. The final table consisted of few tournament regulars such as PokerNetwork’s own Mark “thret” Furniss along with Ron Parsons and Ron Piastrino. Ron Piastrino made it to heads-up play but in the end it was Sydneysider Oliver Keefe who took out the $20,000 first prize.

1st Oliver Keefe - $20,000
2nd Ron Piastrino - $14,000
3rd Khoa Van - $9,500
4th Johnny Safaro - $7,000
5th Mark Furniss - $6,000
6th Johnathan White - $5,000
7th Barry White - $4,000
8th Dale Chapman - $3,000
9th Katrina King - $2,000
10th Ron Parsons - $1,500

Event 2 commenced at 12:15pm today and 190 runners paid the $125 entry to sit down in front of a 10k starting stack for the No Limit Holdem event! Events 3 and 4 are identical and kick off at 12:15pm on Tuesday and Wednesday ahead of the highly anticipated $230 6-Max No Limit Holdem on Thursday.
