Joel "Strong Play" Dodds Leads Final Table at ANZPT Queensland

Posted at 08:16 2009-08-09
Day 3 of the PokerStars.net ANZPT was a day of intense action. It started fast with fast with five players down in the first hour and it would end with a double elimination on the final hand of the night, to set an eight-handed final table.
Of the 32 eliminations on day three some of the notables were tournament overnight chip leaders Lyle Higgs and Tom Zhou, along with Daniel Nielson who bubbled, and past Aussie Millions Main Event champions Stewart Scott and Lee Nelson, both who cashed in 22nd and 15th place respectively.
One of the more interesting quirks of the day was the fact that the two champs were seated next to each other until Scott bowed out in 22nd place.
PokerNetwork regular Joel 'Strong Play' Dodds would prove the dominant force on the day, surging through the field – having as much as thirty percent of the chips in play at one stage. He would finish the day with a pretty commanding lead, almost double the chip stack of second-placed Scott ‘Punty’ Smith.
PokerNetworkers should be immensely proud to have two active posters on the forum on the final table.
‘Strong Play’ and ‘Punty’ will have to contend with experienced players Phillip Willcocks (536,000) and Danny Joukhadar (431,000) as everyone will be looking to take home the $168,075 first prize, coveted trophy and title of ANZPT Queensland Champion.
To make things more interesting both Joukhadar and Dodds are still in the running for PokerStars.net ANZPT Leaderboard honours with Joukhadar needing to win the event to secure third place, and Dodds needing to finish above Joukhadar to stand any chance at grabbing the third place prize.
With play set to commence at 12:30pm local time, make sure to stay locked on to PokerNetwork for all the live updates from the floor of Conrad Jupiters on the Gold Coast!
The final table chip stacks and seating are as follows:
Seat 1: Paul Gibson - 352,000
Seat 2: Phillip Willcocks - 536,000
Seat 3: Scott 'Punty' Smith - 806,000
