Jonathan Bredin Leads Going Into Day 3 of the ANZPT Queenstown Main Event

Posted at 20:30 2013-08-02 by Josh Bell

What was once 66 players is now just 23 as the ANZPT Queenstown Main Event is moving ever-closer to a final table. Leading the way after an exciting Day 2 is Jonathan Bredin with a monster stack of 212,400.

At the beginning of the day there were a huge amount of notable names in contention to go all the way. However, it isn’t always a happy ending for poker players as Oliver Gill, Matt Wakeman, Tom Grigg and Jeff Rossiter were just a few of those to be eliminated throughout the day.

Team PokerStars Pro Bryan Huang was another one of Day 2’s casualties. Huang started the day as the chip leader, but quickly found himself with a short stack before eventually falling to the rail late in the action. Huang was also joined on the rail by the reigning ANZPT Queenstown champion Dave Allan.

Another one of the players to be eliminated on Day 2 was David Yan as all his chips went to the eventual chip leader in Bredin. It was simply a massive flip that would secure the lead for Bredin and terminate Yan’s chances in Queenstown. Despite suffering from Cerebral Palsy, Bredin has been able to rumble with the best of them here in Queenstown. Having limited use of one arm and impeded speech, Bredin has the aid of a special iPad and a carer to communicate his decisions. It has been remarkable to watch and Bredin will certainly be an inspiration to others in a similar situation who want to play poker at an elite level.

Some of those who will be joining Bredin on the penultimate day of the ANZPT Queenstown Main Event include last year’s ANZPT Auckland champion Geoff Smith, Kiwi grinder Jackson Zheng and prominent Aussies Daniel Laidlaw and Daniel Neilson. Also still in contention is Ricky Kroesen as he will be looking to fare even better than he did in last year's ANZPT Queenstown Main Event when he finished in 4th place. Amazingly Kroesen was all in for 3,250 during the first level of the day, but managed to finish with a very healthy 124,900.

Tomorrow will begin at 12.30 p.m. local time and play down to a final table, so make sure to join us then for more ANZPT Queenstown action!
