Event #3 of the 2012 World Series of Poker, the $3,000 No Limit Hold'em / Pot Limit Omaha event, is down to the final eight players and PokerNetwork are delighted to report that one of our own is amongst them.
Australian Julian Powell is just seven players away from scooping a coveted gold WSOP bracelet and the $207,708 first place prize; how amazing is that? Three events into the latest series and we could have an Aussie winner!
When play resumes at 13:00 Las Vegas time Powell will sit down opposite Gregg Merkow in a best-of-three heads-up battle. Should he progress, and we sincerely hope he does, he could face some of the best known poker players in the world because the like of 2011 World Poker Tour Player of the Year Andy Frankenberger, Leif Force, David "Raptor" Benefield, Jason Koon and 2007 World Series of Poker Europe Main Event champion Annette Obrestad are still in the tournament!
Powell's biggest live tournament of his career so far came in 2008 when he finished fifth in the A$2,500 buy-in Main Event of the Victorian Poker Championship in Melbourne which netted him a cool A$53,550 and he will smash that total if he progresses to the next round of matches. He has already locked up $28,409 and will be guaranteed $73,655 if he makes it past Merkow. Should he find himself heads-up for the bracelet the least he will be walking away with is $128,660 but we are praying to the Poker Gods that he will be heading back to Oz with a bracelet and $207,708 to show for his efforts in this event.
From everyone at PokerNetwork, the very best of luck! Bring home that gold!
