Posted at 14:17 2009-12-08

Now that the APPT Grand Final had concluded many will be making their way to Macau for the highly successful poker year-ending Macau Poker Cup Championship!

Held at the PokerStars Macau at the Grand Lisboa – the largest poker room in Asia – this year’s grand finale is set to smash records in both attendance and prizepools for the Macau Poker Cup series.

Taking place from December 12 – 20th, this nine-day schedule will consist of eight featured tournaments, highlighted by the HKD$20,000 Main Event. Along with exciting tournament poker, PokerStars Macau will also play host to the first Asia Poker Awards which will present the winners of the Macau Poker Cup Championship Main Event, Tournament of Champions and the 2009 Asia Player of the Year.

PokerStars Macau Tournament Director Danny McDonagh said, “The Macau Poker Cup series has seen spectacular growth in the last year.   The signature tournament, HKD $10,000 buy-in Red Dragon event, had 57 players and a prize pool of approximately HKD $500,000 in December 2008. In October 2009, these numbers soared to 247 players and a HKD $2.3 Million prize pool. The HKD $20,000 buy-in Main Event is expected to set a new prize pool record in the MPC history books.”

With the Macau Poker Cup being the largest regional tournament, it is no surprise that it has attracted notable professionals such as two-time World Champion Johnny Chan, 2009 WSOP Player of the Year Jeff Lisandro, Nam Le and Huck Seed.

PokerStars Team Asia Pros will be in attendance with Celina Lin, Tae Joon Noh, Bryan Huang and Raymond Wu all representing the region. Celina and Tae Joon are both in contention for Asia Player of the Year and will participate in the Tournament of Champions. Hong Kong celebrities Chrissie Chow and Samantha Ko will also be part of the festivities.

If you want to be part of the Macau Poker Cup Championship, but have a depleted bankroll, then head to PokerStars where you can win your way to the event via free online tournaments and satellites.
