Macau Poker Cup Daily Satellites on PokerStars

Posted at 13:04 2010-10-15

If there is one event on the PokerStars.net APPT that is set to be bigger and better than ever, it’s the APPT Cebu event at the Shangri-La Mactan Resort in the Philippines.  Most people travelling from Australia will be going via Hong Kong to get there and if you are, we can’t think of a better way to get prepared than to stop by Asia’s gaming capital and participating in this year’s Macau Poker Cup Championship (MPCC).

From November 2nd-7th 2010, the PokerStars Macau Poker Room at the exquisite Casino Grand Lisboa will be once again host this event, with ten events catering to all tastes and budgets, wrapping up with the HK$20,000 Main Event with a guaranteed HK$3,500,000 prize pool. Last year’s MPCC champion, Devan Tang, will be back once again to defend his title. According to PokerStars Macau Operations Manager Danny McDonagh, he’ll be up against a bigger field than last year’s 158.

“The growth and popularity of the Macau Poker Cup series has been nothing short of amazing in its short three-year history,” McDonagh said. “The excitement over the Asia Player of the Year race is peaking and that will surely creating a thrilling finish in November’s MPCC.”

All the events in the 2010 MPCC will count towards the Asia Player of the Year race, with the winner receiving a one-year sponsorship deal with PokerStars Macau. Despite Team PokerStars Pro Raymond Wu being out in front at the moment, anybody inside the top 50 can catch him and amongst those are fellow Team PokerStars Pros Bryan Huang (currently second overall) and Celina Lin (currently 15th overall).

Lin is particularly looking forward to this year’s event, “The MPCC is what a finale should be – longer tournament schedule, bigger fields and larger prize pools,” she said. “My goals change from year to year, but there’s no doubt I’m giving my best to win Asia Player of the Year. I’m fortunate to be in a position to compete for the title again.”

All three Team PokerStars Pros, as well as Devan Tang, PokerStars Sponsored Players Kenichi Takarabe, Victor Chen and Kitty Kuo, Macau Millions champion Justin Chan and reigning Red Dragon champion James McCarty will also compete in the HK$50,000 Tournament of Champions to decide who will be the best of the best.

One other special addition to this series is the new HK$50,000 buy-in six-handed High Roller Event on November the 6th, featuring an extremely deep structure and a 50,000-chip start stack, allowing the players to really show their skills at the table. There is also a Charity Event, Ladies Event and the ever-popular Bounty Event. For those who are really keen for some tournament action in Macau, there is also a series of MPCC Warm-Up Events from October 25-31. Who said poker was never going to take off in Asia?

PokerStars are running online qualifiers now. Daily satellites will run at 10:30pm AEDST with $22 turbo rebuy satellites for the Main Event with $500 cash plus two nights at the Grand Lisboa Casino as added value! For more information on the MPCC or other events throughout Asia, log onto www.pokerstarsmacau.com.
