The final event of the 2010 Asia Pacific Championship of Online Poker got underway on Sunday night with 348 players coming to the felt creating a prize pool of $69,600. Those who sat down knew they would be in for a long night extending 12 full levels and 5 minute breaks every hour. With a start time of 6pm AEDT, that meant getting to bed after the sun came up for the remaining 15 players who will return tonight to do battle for the $13,467 first prize.
With 45 places to be paid many of the notable players in the field were going to miss out on the money including wizfromoz (47th), s.Rainy (48th), Raymond Wu (55th), Celina Lin (96th), Joe Hachem (165th), Ricky ‘Rickwaa’ Kroesen (185th), Rennie ‘STEEL144’ Carnevale (206th), Grant ‘Grunter321’ Levy (227th), Sal ‘ugritaly’ Fazzino (258th), Jared ‘thamask’ Dale (285th), Keiran ‘K_Man2307’ Harris (299th), and Chris ‘PokerDomeAA’ Levick (303rd). Of course busting early in the night meant that those players would be fresh for the Monday Morning majors action which will prove more lucrative than the stand alone APCOOP Main Event.
Of the 45 to get paid who didn’t finish the night Danny ‘SilkysNuts’ Silk (27th - $522), Matthew ‘Roojar_M’ Pilat (26th - $522), Bryan Huang (21st - $522) all stuck out as notable results. Leading the way with the tournament on break is Mishel ‘MISHELA’ Anunu from the Gold Coast who has 1.3 million of the almost 7 million chips in play. Anunu’s nearest rivals are a pack of six players including Sydney’s ‘violetflame’ and Melbourne’s ‘julliano13’ who are all sitting with around 500,000 in chips. PokerNetworker Brett "brett_threat" Chalhoub is also still in contention. Australian players make up at least 8 of the remaining 15 players with a couple of New Zealanders and some Asian region players among those fighting for a final table spot.
Top Ten Chip Counts
MISHELA (Gold Coast) - 1,320,797 chips
violetflame (Sydney) - 577,670

Also in action last night was APCOOP Event #10 - a $33 Rebuy Pot Limit Omaha event. This was the tenth event of the APCOOP schedule and boasted 116 entries and 77 rebuys creating a prizepool of $7,980. Unlike most of the other events on the card, Australian players did not dominate proceedings with most of the final table hailing from either Asia or New Zealand. ‘Mr. NTD’ would take down $1,995 for winning the event while PokerStars Pros Bryan Huang and Raymond Wu did their best to multitable the Omaha event with the No Limit Hold’em Main Event but both fell short of the cash.
You can rail the final two tables of the APCOOP Main Event when they get underway at 7pm AEDST tonight.
