The second and final starting flight in the Macau Poker Cup (MPC) Red Dragon Main Event has been completed after a long night of intense poker action. A total of 279 players chose Day 1b as their starting day of choice, taking the total number of entrants to an impressive 532. These players have created a prize pool of HKD$5,225,325 and a first place prize of HKD$1,123,000 – making this evnt the second largest in the history of the series.
Day 1b was not a kind one a couple of Team PokerStars Pros who bought in. Bryan Huang lost with ace-king versus aces whilst Celina Lin – who was looking for an unprecedented third Red Dragon title — got her chips into the middle with pocket queen on a flop only to lose to the of her opponent when a third club made an appearance.
One Team PokerStars Pro who did navigate her way through to Day 2 was Vivian Im and she will fly the red spade flag along with Raymond Wu.
By the time the curtain came down on the Day 1b proceedings, all but 87 players had lost their starting stacks. One man, Hong Zhu, did the complete opposite of losing his chips as he finshed the day armed with 109,800 of them to become the chip leader.
Day 2 will see the 87 Day 1b survivors mix with the 70 who progressed from Day 1a, meaning 157 players will be inside the Grand Waldo Entertainment Complex competing for a slice of the massive prize pool. Of these returning players, just 65 will be paid and we fully expect the money bubble to burst.
